CWD management in Alberta along with some harder winters has put AB mulies in central and southern AB in some of the lowest numbers I’ve ever seen.
There are still giants around, but overall I’d say it’s harder to find good mature bucks in larger quantities, though some truly magnificent...
Age for me gives the first one the edge. Will likely have a bigger head which may hide horn size a bit more when comparing them side by side. Rarely will a young goat like the second one be as big and age sure helps them grow big heads I've found.
I shot this guy years ago and he's my oldest...
Dustin Roe at BackCountry BC and Beyond
Kawdy Outfitters
North River Outfitters
Gundahoo
Golden Bear
All good outfits and almost all have combo available. I've hunted in most of the areas as well as a resident and all hold some giants.
Yukon/NWT has some great choices as well, but I simply...
Had a friend draw one of the Kofa zones and ended up hiring Bob Kyhn to guide him. He killed one of the better rams the zone had produced in years and had a quality hunt. Looked like some amazing country as well!!! They saw and got on quite a few rams. I’d have to look at which zone it was.
One of the main reasons a non resident firearms permit can be issued is for "in transit" travel through Canada to Alaska or vice versa. Valid for 60 days so you can use the same permit on the way home as well. No issues there and a daily routine at a lot of border crossings with main routes...
The officers at the border don't prove it. They're just advising a traveller that it's illegal to visit the national parks with a firearm. Same rules as a resident and traveling through the parks. A lot of non residents are unfamiliar with the laws and could end up in trouble with police or...
Anecdotally I'd say 50% would be too low on outfitter success through the province. As a resident I'm at 50% on stones sheep (dedicated sheep hunts) as I've done 4 dedicated trips with 2 rams. I know a lot of guides and just would think generally 50% is too low. Again all just anecdotal as...
We stayed at the Comfort Inn and it was pretty decent for us and our needs. Wife was happy and parking lot worked great for bbq and for butchering meat on the tailgate as well.
Ya, I actually wrote out numbers on a sheet when my wife and I were analyzing him a bit. I guessed him at 13, 7.5, 7.5, 4.5, 3.5, 5.75 prong
Was shocked how close I was...
Some numbers for those who've asked....
13 1/8 length
7 3/8 and 7 2/8 bases
7 6/8 and 7 2/8 2nd
4 6/8 and 5 5/8 3rd
3 1/8" 4th
Prongs 4 7/8 and 5 2/8
Gross 82.5
Still pretty stunned what a big buck this is!!
Again, I can't say thanks enough to the contacts I've made on here, and to new friends met in the field. More than thrilled in this experience. About the only negative part was not getting to spend more time exploring the zone!!!
