Utah Muzzy hunt optics changes for 2024 Poll

I still own my Hawkins .50. Shoots great, but I do love my CVA Accura MR. I prefer the muzzy hunt to be more challenging. I don’t think red dots or 1x restrict you too much. My dad harvested his 2015 LE Muzzy elk at 250 yards with a red dot. I wasn’t trying to start a debate. Just wanted the...

CVA Accura LRX or MRX ?

I have a CVA Accura MR in .50. Love the gun. I shoot a a 250gr Barnes T-EZ with Blackhorn Powder. Shot my last mule deer at 300 yards. I love the MR due to it's shorter barrel. The new models have a threaded barrel and there is a nice after market brake you can add to it. My little brother...

    Too early for the rut?

Bulls starting sounding off during the night this past weekend in central Utah. The daytime was dead due to 99 on the thermostat all day. This heat wave is insanely hot.

    Too early for the rut?

Been chasing elk with my bow in central Utah and most of the big bulls are not with the cows. I watched 40 head of cows and calves in one nursery herd with no spikes or branch antlered bulls around.

    Today’s Limited Entry Elk Units

Really when you break it down to score, the difference between a 350" bull and a 360" bull is 5 inches more on the G5. With the prolonged drought throughout the west, it doesn't take much to reduce antler growth. It may not be accurate, but just an observation that I see more broken bulls...

    Pahvant Shut Down

If you have been following the Halfway Hill fire that started July 8th you may know that Chalk Creek, Sand Rock Ridge and Willow creek roads are shut down for the fire. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/photos/UTFIF/2022-07-10-1214-Halfway-Hill-Fire/related_files/pict20220614-175007-0.jpeg Now the...

    CC hits

Sherlock, that was back when you could buy a statewide deer permit for rifle, archery and muzzleloader. Of course muzzleloader was ball and cap. A lot less people lived in the state though and I-15 was a two lane road.

    CC hits

I recall when the draw system first started the results were posted at your local DWR office. You had to wade through a mosh pit to see the board, then search for your draw information. Fun stuff.

    Pahvant 2021

Most people applying for the archery hunt on this unit are not rookie bowhunters. Thus I doubt many elk are wounded. This unit is tough to bowhunt for limited entry elk and anyone brave enough to try has my respect.

    Tikka T3 denting bullets

I concur with Cahunter805. Lead tipped bullets are natorious for deforming when being chambered. Most of the bullets used for longer ranges have an polymer tip or very steep hollow point. I noticed recently, Remington figured this out and added a polymer tip to the core-lok...

Highfastflyer, thanks for the response. Sounds like I need to take my .223 along and my digital caller. I have the huntstand app and have marked out all the private property in the unit. Does not appear there are a lot of fences marking the private. Are the named roads in the area legal to...

Drew 2nd Choice Wyoming Unit 36 Deer tag?

Anyone recently hunt unit 36 Wyoming deer. Most information I have found is from 2016 and older. Nothing more recent. My son and I are looking to scout some area and wonder if anyone has some general areas to start. Looking to the north seems to hold the deeper cedar canyons. Any thoughts?
