Antelope - Point Burn Round 2

It takes some work to find 80" antelope in the best units in the world.... it's not an easy task anywhere... Colorado has only had 10 entered in B&C since 2020, so that's a pretty tall order finding one here... 5 above 82" Jackson County had 3 of the 10...which is the most of any county...

As posted earlier... As to implementation, CPW has said "If approved in November, regulatory changes could be implemented as early as the 2025 draws for simple changes. If changes are more complex, implementation may be delayed to 2026 or beyond"

Damn... I should've stayed home on the internet rather than go out hunting...;) On a side note... the most criminal thing about this photo is using a wide angle lens on an already huge buck...

    2024 Point Creep

I'd be willing to bet that with the change in the NR quota, tag cuts, fear of the pending upcoming changes to the big game season structure, changes to the leftover process that it will increase creep. Social media influences urging people to burn points, resident population increasing at...

    Unit 61 here we go!

I don't think that it has changed much, other than the elk go a little deeper to get away from the people. The big bulls hang in places most people don't want to go, 330 would be tough to pass, but there a few bulls each season that surpass that mark.

Soooo anyone find the King's sheds.??

Wait... I thought residents had a 3 day head start... :ROFLMAO: What really blows my mind is people wake up before 6am to chase a stationary object... I still find them when the sun is out...

    Winterkill details for different areas/regions

I think it varies greatly. There's places on the Colorado/Wyoming border that the elk died in droves, as well as deer and antelope. There were a few areas of refuge though and some areas had better survival. But agreeable that the antelope did not fair well... at all.

    Wyoming Region W Deer

I'm not the biologist, but if you take a drive you'll quickly realize the hunting is definitely not going to be the same. I know that everyone is hoping for the best, but realistically it's pretty gruesome out there... Hate to be the "debbie downer" but it is what it is...

Could GPS Collars be a Problem?

I really don't think it has that much bearing on survival. Most animals I've seen collared mainly have their hair under the collar worn. The collar itself acts like insulation in the place of the hair. That almost looks as though maybe the collar got hooked on a fence or something and the...

    Guess the Score...

Agreed. I think generally people don't realize how little it takes to drastically bump an elks score. Tough to field judge under an inch at 200 yards while moving... which still leave you probability of about a 15" margin of error potentially.. Once you've actually slapped a tape on several...

Would you take him in the best unit?

I think this is spot on. If it's the best of the best, there's extremely limited pressure, there's likely a good chance of turning this buck up again in the last couple days. I'd be looking for something special until that point, a buck that has you crapping your pants immediately...

    Struggle Stick

Some great advice given. Mechanics are super important, as well as arrow selection. Arrows need to be the correct spine for your draw weight and are tuned by fractionally cutting them down from full length to tune arrow flight. Lots of great resources out there as well. Clay Hayes has some...

Harsh winter effects on this years elk hunt

I've also witnessed the opposite as animals nearly starve as their bodies generally usually use the nutrition at the start of the antler growth instead to regain body condition. Almost every catastophic winter I've witnessed in my short life has resulted in subpar horn growth. Especially...
