TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Tell her to kill the mule deer/whitetail split idea when you talk with her.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

There is public comment at TRW, actually may be the most important public input. There is obviously public input at the Legislature, which is where the bill goes if the TRW sponsors it. If it passes here, the Commission promulgates any rules that may be needed. Again, public input on that.

    CWD Jumping to Humans?

Yeah those resident shed hunters will be whining that whole first week of May! :ROFLMAO:

    Sportsmen Conservation Forum

And there's one large sportsman/conservation group yet to be invited. But that's because they stand with their membership and fight the good fight. I guess that's how the Governor rolls.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

The current system is 75/25 which creates 1 random moose tag and no random sheep for NR. This is where things go south. You're not describing most residents.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

For residents I don't want change. I've drawn my sheep and moose tag under the current system. If random went to 50% or they changed to BP that would increase my future chances, but I'm fine leaving it just like it is. For NR, there are no random tags( 1 moose, 0 sheep this year) and to sustain...

    Sportsmen Conservation Forum

If everyone is calling "hurry up and get a ticket before they are all gone" an invite, I got one too. 🤷‍♂️ Second, the dog and pony show. I'm sure the same folks will be sitting at the table as usual.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Where does it say they last forever or guarantee a tag?
  10. jm77

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Honestly, isn't that true? No one was ever "guaranteed" a license and top point holders are still drawing tags in the PP drawing. The fact that applicants have increased, numbers of licenses have decreased and the res/nr allocation has changed, doesn't change what a point is.

Would be very interested to hear how that goes.

No points for mtn goats. Random draw only.

    CWD Jumping to Humans?

It's ok to eat as long as you don't test it? Does the test make the CWD more potent or something? To be fair, most hunters in known CDW areas, don't test and I'm sure they say the same thing you do. Bottom line, every hunter in these areas has eaten meat from a CDW infected deer, elk or moose...

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

By my count it would be 7 ram and 2 ewe to random for NR.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

There are no meeting materials out yet, but it will be the same BP system proposed by the Task Force I'm sure. It will be for moose and sheep only. Wyoming has a hybrid PP/random system. 75/25. This doesn't work with the 90/10 allocation for the moose and sheep by individual hunt area. Simple...

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

The biggest die-offs in sheep I know about are the Gros Ventre and Whiskey Mtn herds. No goats around those areas.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

May not have to worry much longer about mtn goats. Today at the Commission meeting Doug Brimeyer admitted the Dept is reducing goat herds where they live next to Bighorns. I guess you call them invasive long enough and the name sticks.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Don't drop your preference points for moose and sheep yet. The Travel, Rec and Wildlife interim committee will be discussing changing PP to bonus starting at it's May meeting in Cody.

    Elk Draw Questions

I agree, but before the change to 90/10 allocations were also done at the statewide level. @goforbroke it doesn't appear there will be a moose random tag for NR either. I wouldn't stop getting points until the question of allocations (50/50?) or bonus points is answered.

    What would you do?

How many days are there from Aug 10th thru Jan 31st? No matter how you call it, that's the "fall" hunting season.

    Elk Draw Questions

Who's fault is it then that many who apply don't know how the system works? When many residents wanted a first crack at the leftover tags, members of the Task Force and later some in the G&F Dept said residents should know how having three choices works on tag apps.

There will be no random NR sheep tag if the quotas are approved as proposed. The Dept. would have to speak about any possible changes.

    Red Desert Pronghorn 80”+

They only shrink 2-4 inches of score when they are scored too high to begin with. Boiling horns off doesn't help either.

There will be a statute adjustment to deal with this, but if they go too far the stock growers will step in.

Took my grandson yesterday before the big storm hitting Wyoming. We had an awesome hunt, the gobbler came strutting over the slope of the hill and he whacked him at 5 yards with the TSS!

A new Director for Game and Fish? Good or a battle?

The candidates are chosen by the Commission, the Gov chooses from there. And yes, the whole thing is political.
  36. jm77

A new Director for Game and Fish? Good or a battle?

The "Wyoming expert" is correct as residents elect our Governor.
  37. jm77

A new Director for Game and Fish? Good or a battle?

The Commission will give three names to the Governor who, after consideration, will make the appointment.

Wyoming G and H non resident tags cut again

One of the main reasons LQ areas have a higher % kill is that LQ hunters have no other options. Residents can hunt general every year which makes for a higher likelihood of self regulating on mule deer, which we know has happened, especially in western Wyoming. Proof that LQ rarely works long...
