Oregon Buck n Bull w/ Outfitter Tags if Needed

My girlfriend hunted with Birch Creek around the first of February and got her first elk on the morning of the 2nd day of hunting. Great staff who puts lots of effort into making you successful.

    Trail cam photos

Surprised it captured all of those different animals. I captured a spotted skunk on one of mine back in Sept. Had to look them up since I didn't think they were in CA.

    Antelope hunt Calif. Zone 5

Girlfriend and I killed 2 antelope in NE wyoming 1225 miles from home. Field dressed, popped hindquarters off to put lengthwise and each fit in a 160 quart ice chest with plenty of room for ice (crushed, block, dry, etc.)

I've been working so much the deer decided to come to my house instead.

    X5B information

Totally agree. Dad and I hunted it about 10 years ago. Cold weather snap hit and bucks started rutting/fighting. Made hunting a little easier between that and less hunters.

    A12/X6B help

Have you reviewed the DFW Spotkill Maps? Obviously 2021 map is likely not as representative due to the Beckworth Complex fire but previous years seem relatively concentrated and you can see which were Archery.

    61-71 elk

Hunted cow elk (early tag) in 2021. Focused in 071. Spoke to a few people hunting in 061 that I saw in 071 that said they hadn't seen much. They also were at the bar in Jarbidge so maybe that's why. We focused on 071 since the west portion of 061 had burned pretty recently then. That said, I'm...

50 less NR tags in G

My girlfriend and I both left G last year with no bucks. Even had one in the scope. Was in range for me and not really for her. Tried to get closer for her and it did what lots of deer do. It was a ~22-24" 3 point. Would have been a nice first buck for her. Even being from California, we...

    Wyoming Modified Season Proposals

It is not a joke nor was it any attempt to imply it only effects NR's. I was just asking because it wasn't included. Just because I'm not a resident of WY doesn't mean I don't care about the livelihood of big game animals regardless of where I live.

    Wyoming Modified Season Proposals

Were there also changes to resident tag numbers? I didn't see where those would have been listed. Saw the changes to season dates, harvest requirements, and NR. Just curious if there are more changes we don't see in these papers.

    Mule Deer 141-145 or 151-156

All of this information has been helpful. I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts and experiences. Between the three cow elk hunting trips spending the most time in 062, 066 and 071, I wasn't really seeing the type of deer I'd plan on going after in those units understanding the number of...

    Mule Deer 141-145 or 151-156

I've searched and read quite a few posts about these two areas and am considering applying for one or both of them for my girlfriend. She has 5 points and after our botched backpacking Region G Wyoming hunt (don't bring newbie with you regardless of what they say) last fall, she is still...

CA. mule deer with 18 [points

In 2013, the small and medium sized bucks were following the does by the end of the first week. Applying as a party is always interesting. When I apply in Nevada, I put my girlfriend and I in separate. Applied for antlerless elk 4 times with same choices. She drew it 3 out of 4 and I drew...

CA. mule deer with 18 [points

I hunted X5B in 2013. While it was the first year after most of the zone burned, I don't know if I would use 18 points on it.

Which tag? A26 bass hill bow or a9(x5b) bow?

Yes, sir. The only area that seemed crowded like I was hunting in C or D zones. There are some big bucks up there. Just not gonna see too many from the road.

Which tag? A26 bass hill bow or a9(x5b) bow?

Here is some help with "at home research". (Hint) There is 1 fire lookout and one road that gets you to it. The summer before hunting there I coincidentally met a guy that owns ~160 acres along that road and he says he doesn't shoot any buck under 27" after the locals laughed at the first few...

Which tag? A26 bass hill bow or a9(x5b) bow?

It's been several years since I've hunted X5B but I will say some big ones were easy to find when I was scouting for rifle season. One 2x3 we saw while scouting I'm pretty sure we saw taken during rifle and it was a hair under 28" and heavy horned. The couple that had him said they had watched...

How far is the furthest shot you missed an elk?

Drew first elk tag (cow tag) in 2021. Missed what I thought was the last cow blowing up out of a draw around 510 yards away. Disgusted at myself for missing I started to move and saw 3 bigger cows coming into view (they were the last of the group) from timber in the bottom. Reset and got one...

    Better buy them now guys!

Here in the country of Kommifornia, the law abiders have to pay $0.10 a bag but if you're on welfare they are free. It makes me sick how quick this state is going in the dumps and the Federal government and other states think they need to follow our policies. January 1 brought a ban on all...

If you had14 points for Deer what would you do or zone you would pick

We had cell service where we were at in G. On the ridgetops around 9,700 feet. Backpacked in 3 miles.

    Can I draw a tag?

Sometimes random just comes down to luck. Put in for NV anterless elk 4 times as individuals. Girlfriend drew 3 out of 4. We each drew the last time we put in. Me with 3 points and her with 1 point. So my random number was drawn 10 times and hers twice.

Was in G this season. Spent way too much time looking at these things ahead of the season.

    Wilderness Area in Region G??

The green and hatched area is Wilderness Area. There doesn't appear to be any green and hatched area in Region G (135, 143-145). The green shaded area not hatched is not Wilderness Area.

    Doyle Muzzy hunt

Reminds me of when my dad and I drew X5B the year after most of it burned the year before. Nearly all the Intel we got was for areas with zero vegetation growth or water. Now with the reduced tag numbers it's likely close to OIL.

    Unit 41 Mule Deer

I like to keep up on the Nevada Big Game Status books when applying and hunting in Nevada and sometimes they can help in neighboring units/states. Take comments about 061, 071 across the border in Nevada for example. "In January 2022, elk were observed throughout their traditional winter...

The junk show of H and G.

I hunted region G in 2006 and our group of 4 were successful. Drew it with 0 points then. This year gf and I each had 9 points and drew in regular draw. The jury is still out if we work on building points to return to G, a different zone in WY, or maybe a different state. That's one tiny plus...

The junk show of H and G.

My girlfriend and I were in the high country of G this season for a short period. Had to leave way ahead of our schedule do to someone else who tagged along forgetting the schedule we would be on the mountain after discussing it at least 10 times. We backpacked in about 3 miles and were over...

Cow elk hunt this year in Nevada units 071 and 061

My girlfriend and I hunted early season last year. The hunt info and biologists say to get away from roads to increase your chances. 1) That's next to impossible when you consider all the two tracks on most of the mountains and 2) Most of the elk we saw were less than 600 yards from the roads...

Nevada bull elk in units 61-71, firearm season in October

I was in there in last year for cow elk in Sept. Saw a few nice bulls. Had dustings of snow above 8000 feet and thought what the bull season would be like. Guess I was close in my thoughts based on arrowslinger10's actual experience. Let me know if you'd like more intel.

    Interesting observation on antler growth

Founder, from current videos it seems like there is more moisture, food, greenery, etc. this year than in the past. Would you agree? If so, this should contribute to a longer antler growth period.

    Fire suppression

At least it's in the California section of the forum. In California, you are expected to help the greater good by calling out your neighbors when they do wrong like washing their cars, having water run down the street, etc. Also defensive space for fire prevention is YOUR responsibility...

    Fire suppression

SPI lost a lot of future revenue and land value when the USFS watched a lightning fire for 3 months, decided to light a backfire in inaccessible terrain using a drone 3 days before a known wind event, and burned almost 300,000 acres in a single day. The fire traveled 30 miles in 14 hours. If...
