    Youth Rifle Suggestions

A good adjustable stock could fit a growing optimally kid every year. There are good aftermarket options for most current popular rifles, kind of depends on how much you want to spend.

when is it time for cadfg to realize their bullshit

The snakes wrote up and advertised Proposition 6, additional gas tax on our already too high gas tax, so that most voters had no idea that they were voting to add additional gas tax. Fixing roads sounds great.... Repeal Proposition 117? Not a chance. That was passed back in the time that a...

when is it time for cadfg to realize their bullshit

Mountain Lions are worse on wild sheep than deer. Extreme winters like 23-24 have a higher winter kill of bighorns because sheep avoid better winter ground with lions present. Lion populations increasing after Prop 116 1990 had a significant negative effect on the Eastern Sierra bighorn...

when is it time for cadfg to realize their bullshit

The proposed big game material for the April season setting meeting is not on line yet. No more tags should mean keeping quotas the same as last year. But in addition to feeding the lions, we also need deer to sustain the recently established Sierra wolf packs.

    Bolt hitting scope

These are a nice upgrade for a Savage Axis. The longer handle also gives more leverage and makes the bolt lift easier. https://gladesarmory.com/product-category/savage-arms/savage-axis-right-hand/

    Utah draw Question?

I am applying before my license expires. Based on last year, I think I have a chance (really), but just one more or less nonresident tag makes a huge difference in my odds or what else I might want even more. Guess if I have to buy the licence after the proposed stage numbers come out, so be it:)

    Best 1X scope

Can't you use rough body height (18" deer, 24"elk) to hold over on a big game animal out to hold over on reasonable muzzleloader range?

    Utah draw Question?

If you wanted to change a choice after the proposed tag quotas are posted, would that be considered an application submission and require a new license?

Applications Numbers 2024 draw~ system crash

A lot of state agencies charge a service fee on using the charge card to cover the charge service fee. NM does not. They are probably breaking even on the $13 nonresident application fee on elk and are losing on oryx/ibex/sheep. The non-refundable license to apply covers it, but they aren't...

    Missing hunter found

Did they find the lion with the chest full of bullet holes and/or the rifle? He could have been delirious from dehydration and exhaustion and seeing things.

Applications Numbers 2024 draw~ system crash

A lot of nonresidents wait until the last day to minimize interest charges. Depending on when they issue refunds and your billing cycle, it might be possible to get the refunds back on your card before payment is due.

    Poor Zeiss Warranty Experience....

Zeiss just told me to go pound sand on a broken off plastic focus wheel on my 8 x 20 compacts. I'm not sure about the damage or fungus, look fine and clear to me. I just wanted the knob fixed, which I can probably do better than original using a steel screw. I didn't ask them to open and clean...

Muzzy bullets - Colorado Legal ?

QLA counterbore coaxiality has been an issue on some Omegas. Try it and see. If it doesn't shoot solids well, there are options like cutting the barrel far enough back and crowning. That might mean moving the sight back. Not sure it would be worth paying to get that done vs buying something else.

    Abolish the point system!

As far as the point system goes, they will change it if enough have nots complain. The haves won't like it. I think the likely change will be to something like NV has. It seems like bonus points squared is the most favored draw system.

    Abolish the point system!

There is no set aside nonresident quota for sheep. Everyone is in the same pot. If a nonresident happens to draw before the cap is hit, the tag is issued. It is entirely possible that nonresidents don't draw.

    Best 1X scope

Service and parts will be an issue if your muzzleloader breaks one, even from a still in business company that discontinued them. They will probably have to replace it with their closest comparable model, a low power variable. I am wondering why they even allow scopes rather than ones that are...

IS ANYBODY HERE USING ARKEN OPTICS???

Seems the eye relief is a bit short for man calibers in a reasonable hunting weight rifle. They are heavy too. The consequences of the scope taking a dump on a hunting trip are high. Maybe they OK on a not so serious competition rifle?

    FCFS Late Archery

4:54 am this morning. I wish I could just take off, but can't until the 16th, due to both work and family stuff. Oh well, it's a bonus surprise present and I only had 2 points. It was up when I woke up. I woke my wife up to talk to her about it before I took it. That's at least 5 minutes, not...

    Best 1X scope

Is a 1x scope really as good for long range than a micrometer adjustable receiver sight like a Lyman 48 or Redfield 70? Sure, they are quicker for closer shots and old eyes in low light.

    FCFS Late Archery

Just looked at the FCFS site and a 194-196 nr late archery tag was there. I couldn't resist that impulse buy. Minus a few days at Christmas, I can take off most of the second half of the season. Something to do!

    Deer Tag Return

My dad would always write us great sounding sick notes. The absolute best one was when we drew NV deer tags just as Legionnaires' disease was big in the news. That's what my brother and I had! 🤣 When I went to college, I made arrangements to make up tests with other excuses. I didn't use...

    102 deer

My truck (2001 Silverado) is having issues clearing the secondary air OBD readiness monitor. I couldn't get it registered before going on the trip, a PRC (People's Republic of California) issue. So took my brother's ride. I think it rolled because the car tires my brother put on it blew out in...

    102 deer

He is probably laughing at my driving in 102 this year. BTW, I saw one pretty good buck (I think about 170-175) on day 2, but that's too early. Nobody I else talked to saw admitted to seeing a 170+. One guy had hunted it a couple of times (himself once and guiding his son once) and was really...

    Deer Tag Return

It looks like there is some risk they will not approve, but you can send it in with a request to reinstate points. White Mountains Sheep Hunt 2023

Thanks for sharing. Were sheep numbers in general way down or just mature rams? I would think disease would have taken every sex and age class down. Maybe the heavy rains allowed the older rams to move further and away from normal haunts and water sources which they like to do? But then the...

    Leftover Reissue list is up.

Slipped going over a boulder field in the Sierras with a fairly heavy backpack on. My leg got wedged between boulders and twisted my knee. I was able to walk to a meadow, laid down and it swelled up. I was done. I tapped out on the Garmin and got my first helicopter ride. Glad I bought the extra...

    Leftover Reissue list is up.

I was just sitting there with nothing to do this morning before they put the ten unit 76 tags up. A week ago, I would have been all set and ready race. But something else was telling me no, so I didn't try. I probably would be pondering returning one if I had one, pending my MRI. I just hope to...

    Drew Tehachapi bull tag

They have a pretty good life. Mild weather with no harsh winter, good feed, no hunting till this year, still light hunting, good and abundant feed, no wolves or grizzly bears, no migration. They are Yellowstone stock that can mostly grow to full potential.
