I'd go with a spin outfit unless you've fly fished some before. You're there a short time and fly fishing can be a tad frustrating. I've caught a lot of trout with very minimal spin gear (even a branch with a little line and a hook!)

Palco used to have that type of saw in their Scotia mill. Believe it was steam powered and moved much faster than that one in the video.

I think the way it was mandated did much more harm. Emphasis should have been put on protecting the at risk segment of the population and let the rest of society carry on. We could have burned through it in 6 months I bet.

1.Put A LOT of thought about where to setup. I've screwed up more quality encounters this way. 2. If you have a caller, setup downwind of the caller not straight towards the bull. They will almost always hook downwind. 3. Bring your wife to elk camp. It's good luck.

I would do a guide if you don't have someone who is well versed in bow hunting elk to go with you. I think you would probably have a better time with a friend who knows his way around bow hunting elk rather than a guide IMO. There is nothing better in hunting than calling in a bull even though...

Hunted with a buddy who had a central idaho lope tag a couple of years ago. Same-ish opening date. LOTS of rut activity. He had never shot one before and took the first one he saw on opening morning lol. I saw a ton of better bucks as we were leaving.

I shot a very similar buck about 12-14 years ago. Never scored him but always figured he was in the 160 range. Not a great pic but you get the idea. He is 28" wide.
