    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

I remember reading some about Mr Porter, if I remember correctly he found serial number 1 and 2, they are listed for sale on GB for 1.75 million dollars. Little out of my reach. The rarest configuration I own is a super grade carbine in 22 hornet. Several pre war super grades and a couple post...

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

I should have stated every bolt action, you are correct. I agree with the, what grandpa would want statement, my guess is with him not shooting it and leaving the tags on it, that’s how he would want the rifle to stay.

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

Wow doubling down, I can most definitely tell if a gun is NIB or like new from several high definition photos vs a used firearm, very easy to tell once you know what to look for. One more time for possible penetration, he did not ask about shooting one round out of it, he asked about using the...

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

What would be the use of going outside and shooting it once in the ground? Again he asked about taking it out and USING it. Not shoot once to see if it works. Im thinking if Gramps wanted to own a used rifle he would have used it, not take care of it for years and years in that condition for the...

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

I’m quite familiar with Rule’s book, it’s only a virgin once. I’ll be happy to compare prices on used vs unfired pre 64 rifles. I’ll show you several examples if you like. The op was asking about taking it out an USING it, not firing one round, big difference.

    Pre 64 Winchester 30-06

If it’s truly unfired LEAVE IT THAT WAY. Go buy a new one and shoot the heck out of it if you want to shoot a 30-06. You will decrease the value by a lot if you start shooting an original unfired pre 64. It has survived at least 61 years in its current condition why destroy it now. You can buy...

    Elk Shed Help

You need to train your eyes to look for sheds, sounds simple but most of the time movement will catch your eye first. If you have access to a shed toss in a pile of bushes, then study looking at how the tines lay. Toss it tines up tines down facing towards you then away, so on and so on. Glass...

    Shotguns

Everyone has to start somewhere, Labs are a good start, someday you’ll work your way up to pointing breed, JK. Benelli SBE are fantastic guns if you plan on running hots loads, on occasion you can find one to run a lighter oz load but most will not. Look at the M2, a 3 inch shell has plenty of...

Ammo Question - What are these?

The US military stopped using corrosive primers by the early 50’s. Lots of Russian and Chinese stuff still being made that’s corrosive. It will junk a gun right now if you’re not careful in the clean up.

Ammo Question - What are these?

Also, they are loaded in en bloc clips, that what you load the M1 garand with, one of the few guns that use a clip and not a magazine. see if he still has the rifle, some of them are crazy expensive.

Ammo Question - What are these?

It’s 30-06 made in the St. Louis Army ammo plant, appears to be 1957. That’s, the case I have no idea if it has been reloaded or original factory loads.

    300 PRC vs 7 PRC

Are you looking for a hunting cartridge or target shooting? 7mm PRC is plenty of horse power for anything in the lower 48. 7mm has considerably less recoil than the 300.

Sig Cross or Aero Precision Rifle?

They may have figured it out, but the Q rifles had quite a reputation for failure to extract. Seen quite a few of the Sig rifles and they have not had any problems that I’ve seen.

    New Rifle

Be cautious on the savage, they are great rifles, very accurate, BUT the actions are very long. You will need to put a rail on it and for a smaller framed person it can be difficult to get the proper eye relief. Weatherby rifles are the same.

    Winchester 1894 model 30 WCP 1929 question

That’s not an original 94, someone spent a considerable amount on coin on fixing that up, look real hard for a work order, or a bill of sale. If someone like Doug Turnbull did the work it’s going to be valuable. From the serial number it looks to be a late 1920’s manufacture. Be cautious on...

Did I mess up passing on these bucks?

If you have to think about shooting one, then don’t. I’ve not shot a buck in years, not because i couldn’t just because I’m looking for a true trophy class buck. i video them and consider that a “kill” if I wanted to take them I could. Tag a 150 you can’t tag a 180 later that year.

    Down to the last second

Awesome bull, congratulation. For you guys just starting to shoot iron sights, FOCUS ON THE FRONT SIGHT. It is impossible for your eyes to focus on more than one thing at a time. Your target, wether it is paper or an animal should always be fuzzy. Your brain will automatically center your sight...

    Bow tuning issues.

As Pickett mentioned, if everything is correct on the rest, knock, arrow etc, you could have a miss matched limb set. It’s rare but I’ve seen it happen before, it can also be a stabilizer issue. Also don’t get too hung up on “tuning” shoot some groups and see how well you are doing at distance...
