    Rifle Stocks Synthetic or Wood

I love wood stocked rifles. They are just beautiful. I have both wood and synthetic. Yes, the synthetic is lighter and can take more abuse, but wood is just classy. My favorite rifle is a Win Model 70 Featherweight, SS in .260 Remington. It shoots great and looks great also.

    SOLD Win 70 .270win

I have a very good condition Winchester Model 70 in .270win. It is one of the newer CRF MOA rifles. The trigger has been replaced with a Timney trigger. Bluing is in very good condition with no visible scratches or ware. Stock has a couple of small scratches from use, but nothing significant...

Have you ever shot the wrong one?

Yes, I did this. When I was about 13 my dad bought me a new rifle. It was a Rem 7600 30-06, because the guy I hunted with had the same rifle, but an older model 760. I had my uncle mount a scope on it. That rifle kicked like a mule. To the point that the scope mounts would loosen. One year I...

Have you ever shot an animal that had a previous wound?

The bull that is in my profile picture had a bullet in his shoulder. I shot that bull about 6 years ago. When I saw him, he was walking just fine. But when I skinned him, I found a slug in his left shoulder. It was encapsulated in the muscle, but no infection around it. The weird part about...

    Doing it right.

This is a great video. I love how much dad got his son involved in the decisions of the hunt. This reminds me of my son and I. He is now 20, but when he was younger, I loved watching him try to figure out the next step. Good job dad! This is how it is done. Get them involved and they will be...

How far have you tracked a buck?

When I was about 16 I went on my first archery deer hunt by myself. In those days, there were no rangefinders, so you had to get pretty good a judging distance. I was hunting blacktail and found this small buck in a grove of trees. I put a stock on him and got withing what I thought was about...

    How did you learn

Like Swivelneck above, I grew up on the coast of Northern California hunting black tail. My dad was never much of a hunter, but my grandfather, uncle, and cousins loved to hunt and passed it on to me. From the time I was 12, I was out shooting deer. In my early 20's I moved to Nevada and have...

    Scope rings

Personally, I use Hawkins rings. I had the same scope and on a Defiance action I used lows and they worked great.

    Hunting Rifle Setup for $1500

If it were me, based on what you are looking at, I would go with a Tikka with a Leupold VX3 or Zeiss V4. Tikkas are great base rifles. I have owned several and all have shot very well. Smooth action, good trigger, and light weight. I have several Leupold scopes and all have been great. I did...

    the perfect bullet

Hi everyone! I am new to this group and obviously a little late to the thread. Over the years, I have shot a lot of different bullets to see how they perform on game. In the end of the day, they all have their pros and cons. To find a truly bonded bullet with a good BC so far is pretty much non...
