    Paramount Pro Colorado

when using powerbelts, that 270gr platinum would have been a disaster on elk. Very poor choice of bullet for an elk. I suggest you do some research on the lighter weight powerbelts so you have a successful season.

    A little Hawken work

I picked this up many many months ago and did a little more work on it yesterday. This is an ultra rare factory walnut stock from the early 80's during their first few years. CVA pretty much used beechwood, BUT, those early years, they had a limited supply of walnut , and I got super lucky and...

    New Blackhorn 209 Quick Loader

Yeah, a bit pricey for what it is, but it does like a well designed and made product. Anymore, I purposely slow down my reloading after a shot, so I can listen to the animal running through the woods.

    Hunting advice.

Never had BH209 draw any moisture over the years i shot it. No need to push a load out at the end of the day either. Load it, keep it dry, wipe it down it the rifle gets damp from rain. Never had the need to tape a muzzle. Always figured that its easier to point the barrel at a slight...

    Semi custom Traditions Hawken .54

This is a BRAND NEW gun! I bought a brand new, complete, stock, and dropped in a Brand New, CVA Hawken barrel. I used a .54cal 28" 15/16" CVA Hawken barrel, removed all factory stamping, and stamped my own 54 marking on the barrel. This barrel is a deep groove 1:48 twist and is brand new...

    CVA MR-X

As we all know, I am a big fan of CVA guns since a young age. I had a customer come to me and ask me to get him set up for a solid 200 yard rig for NM elk. Well I picked out the paramount, but he was later talked into buying the CVA Accura MR-X .45cal.. Ok cool! not a big deal. Boy was I wrong...

    New to muzzle loaders

IMO i'd stay away from the X cva guns. Just got in an MR-X and its a turd. Going back to the company for replacement. Super heavy trigger, the scope rail came all burred up, forearm sits cocked sideways. I've heard folks are having horrible accuracy issues with them as well. Never got past...

Buckskinner Stories - Tales of the hunt

Went very well for us in Colorado! 2 doe tags and a buck tag were filled. We had 2 cow elk tags, but due to the heat, we were unable to find them and decided to pull out 2 days early and get all the deer processed. We did all the processing ourselves and ended up with 163lbs of yumminess! All 3...

    Muley Ready!

I bought some Bridgers Best patches the other week and wanted to give them a try in my Traditions St.Louis Hawken .54cal. I was shooting from 60 yards and used 80gr gearhart-owen 2fg, .015" patch lubed with bear paws patch lube and home cast .530" round balls. 5 shots total and i am pretty...

    Leman cross plains rifle

Arrived safely! A Doc White, in the white kit gun. I've already started by inletting the barrel channel larger and then proceeded to bed the tang and barrel for a nice weather resistant sealed fit. Any tiny little wood splinters, I shaved or sanded away before bedding it. By the time its fully...

Green River Rifle Works NW Trade Gun

I tried 3fg powder today. Results from 80 and 90gr charges. Ignition was dang near instant! I filed down the front sight about .005" today and hope that will put it at least dead on at 50 yards. I still need to try 60 and 70gr charges, but will need to run more balls in the shop.

Green River Rifle Works NW Trade Gun

Not at all! I talked to him today and hes still turning out guns for folks. He told me he has 200 Bison .504 kit guns to sell. I looked on his website and sure enough! $500 to $550. I'd love to get one and build it.

1st ever ML shots today, what went wrong?

pellets are hard to ignite. Having hang fires or misfires or even a load that only lights up halfway and looks like a roman candle, can and are going to happen. Loose powder is best and a hell of a lot more reliable.

Winchester triple seven muzzle loader primers

they'll ignite bh209 just fine. Just leave a thick soot layer in the bore. If your primer seals tight, they'll ignite. If its loose and messy, it may hang fire.

    Prepping for elk season

Not bad! I had rebarreled my Traditions St.Louis Hawken about 1 1/2 months ago and ended up using a CVA Hawken .54cal barrel. Today I finally sat down and took my time, swabbing the bore between each shot, letting everything cool down, seating the patched round ball consistently on the powder...

    52 Caliber Bullets for Colorado

NOE, Accurate Molds, MP molds all make great bullet molds. I never really understood why knight made such an odd ball caliber, you just knew bullets were going to be an issue.

licensee who can't load their own gun.

i used to watch my brother in law very carefully when i got him into muzzleloading. Sometimes the safer bet with a new hunter/shooter is to load it for them to ensure the projectile is seated and safe to shoot. There are times I'll even reload my brothers gun or even my dads in fear that they...
