Arizona leading the way, auction tags to be history

It's up to Arizona whether they continue to allow auctioning a couple of tags per species for conservation purposes. And the commission has decided they will not. No effect on me whatsoever since I don't buy auction tags. I only do raffles. But the notion that raffles can make up the difference...

    Archery Elk Non-Res 22 Points

As a NR, unfortunately you have very few choices available for guaranteed draw at your point level. And they don't include any of the units mentioned above. I'd first look at which hunts had a guaranteed draw for your pool in 2023's draw (21 points last year) to narrow it down to the scant few...

    Expo Draw results posted

It's all in how you word it. The odds against those two specific people with last name of Leavitt drawing those two specific hunts is very high, but they are exactly the same odds against any other two specific ticket-buyers for those two hunts who you would want to select out of the pool. About...

    Gross or net??

As nets are for fish, gross is for ego (or alternatively, for fish guts). In reality, neither of the words "net" nor "gross" appear on a Boone & Crockett score form. Just a "final score".

    Bull elephant or stone sheep?

Elephant, if forced to pick one. Would be an amazing hunt. Admittedly, I've already taken a dark Stone Sheep.

    Kidney stones

That's a whopper, good luck. To keep from getting more in the future, the doc told me to not eat almonds, strawberries, spinach or drink black tea.

    Artifact?

Thumb-scrapers have a sharp edge and are typically made of knapped flint. What you've got there, my artifact-hunting friend would call a "love rock".

    draw question

I'd vote to change the rule to allow picking just one hunt code, instead of up to 5. That change would be likely to increase draw odds for those willing to settle for lesser demand hunts. With the extreme demand that now exists for all those hunts, the only reason to continue allowing multiple...

FWP Refund for Super Tag 2023

Anyone else get a check in the mail this week, addressed from "FWP REFUNDS" showing on the check stub "GOAT / MOOSE / SHEEP SUPER TAG REFUND"? Caught me off guard to receive a refund on super tags with no explanation. Check was for 15.00.

    Carrying your bow

When carrying, I hold mine by the grip. Gives better control to keep it off weeds and brush.

CPW reissue a desert bighorn sheep ram tag? CMS5601R

Ooooorrrrrr.......there are folks who have adopted an agenda to make it seem like more of a mess than it actually is, for their own personal reasons. As best I can tell the system works fine. I know I got a decent archery deer tag with just normal keyboard plinking earlier in the year. But if...

CPW reissue a desert bighorn sheep ram tag? CMS5601R

The "next in line" is not dependent on having a point system. So 5 people either turned down a DBHS license or failed to respond when contacted. Crazy.

Binoculars with or without a rangefinder?

Leica 10x42's with built-in rangefinder, I'm on my second set of these, having upgraded from the original BRF's to the more recent HD-R's. Some of the best glass in the world, and wouldn't hunt without them.

    More educated bowhunters

Three significant game-changers that come to mind for compounds would be centershot risers, no-stretch string & cable materials, and drop-away rests. We take these for granted now of course. But in earlier days a lot of people struggled to shoot even a compound bow well, esp with broadheads...

    Bow tuning issues.

Go to archerytalk and post your issue in the brand-specific forums. Of course you'll need to provide WAY more basic information than you are providing here. Such as what bow brand and model, cam timing settings, center shot setting, draw weight, type of rest, what arrow and how are they...

    Where to put the arrows

For me it would depend entirely on what I'm using the case for. If it's for for airline travel, a dozen arrows would go in a standard arrow tube. If it's for truck-travel hunts, I'd just keep the 5 arrows stored separately, in that one-piece bow quiver, after removing it from the bow.

I've done the Greenland hunt twice. Arrowed a P&Y bull on both trips, along with a CCBG caribou on the second trip. Both hunts were with Frank Feldmann with Bowhunting Greenland. Frank is the individual who was key in convincing the government several years back to allow bowhunting. Trophies...
