    Wasatch archery bull

Nice bull! I'm sure the meat is fine. 2 of the last 3 elk my buddies and I have shot were recovered the following morning and both were good. Last year we didn't lose any meat and the year before only a small amount that was on the ground side was lost. Both elk killed early season.

    Best boots for the price

I bought a pair of Cabelas Iron Ridge boots a few years back and I must say they have been a very pleasant surprise. They are a bit on the heavy side but are a well made, quality boot that I have put through the wringer. Full leather, gore-tex and thinsulate. Very hard to beat for $119.

    DROP AWAY REST

As some have said, shoot it a bit first. You might like the current set up. I used a rip cord rest for a while and switched to a biscuit because I like the simplicity, no moving parts. I can't say that I noticed any change in my accuracy. I'm sure some people do, just not me.

    It's What I Do

Wow DW, that one elk filled a lot of game bags!

    Wounded Bulls

If he was hunting with a rifle that means he had only 7 days to hunt correct? He could'nt have tried too hard to find the 3 wounded bulls in that time and still have had the time to shoot a 4th. I have feeling this story is a bit exaggerated. I would think that with 6 people in the group...

    Wasatch Mountain questions

I had the archery tag last year and unfortunately was not able to kill a bull. But it was not due to lack of bulls. If I had a rifle or ML it would have been a different story. I hunted for 13 days total and saw elk every day and had a blast. I don't know that drop camp would be that...

    Wasatch Archery

Some great bulls! Well I also drew the tag to add to everyone else so there'll be no shortage of us in the woods. I've been up a few times so far and haven't seen much (except deer). Took some time to hang with the family over the last month so now I can dedicate my time to scouting. The area...

    Wasatch archery season-Guns?

Hey nocwalker, congrats on the tags! I tink I read in another post that you are coming from PA is that right? If so what part? I'll be up there this archery season hunting deer and spikes/cows with my buddies and we are all transplants from PA. I was up there today doing a little...

muzzy 4 blade vs muzzy 3 blade

I had the same problem with the Muzzy MX-4. Those things were all over the place. I'm sure my bow could have been tuned better but I found another BH that flew perfect so I switched. I've been thinking about trying the Muzzy 3 blade simply because you get 6 for the same price that most other...

    Best 3D deer target?

I can tell which one NOT to get: The Glen Del Buck. There is a replaceable vital area that has a METAL edge around it so if you hit just on the edge of the vitals it's goodbye arrow!

North Slope/South Slope, High Uintas West Goats

Go to Google Earth and search Mirror Lake Utah and it will take you real close. Ostler peak is a little NE from Mirror lake. But as was said, there are goats on lots of the peaks. Murdock Mt (due south of Mirror lake) is right off the hwy at Bald Mt Pass and I've seen lots of goats up there too.

Been pondering those fancy mechanical broadheads...how do you practice with them?

Some of the mechanicals, like NAP Spitfires, don't lock in the open position so they are very easy to remove from targets.

    best release for the money

For the money? I'm sure most people on here will disagree but I'll say Cobra pro caliper. Inexpensive and it works great. Had the velcro strap first and I lost that one so I bought the buckle and I actually like it better. $29.95 at sportsmans. I've tried other types of releases and I cant see...

    Humbled Archer

At least you guys have had shots! I've put a ton of miles on the boots this year and have seen only 1 elk, a cow that was about 500 yds out. Talk about being humbled and having no confidence. Since I bought a rengefinder earlier this year my distance judging skills have gone to crap. I...

    Are you good?

A few years ago two of my buddies packed in around 4 miles with game carts. It worked out very well for hauling all their gear in. Unfortunately we did not get an elk to pack out but we had plenty of supplies for the whloe trip. They were in for 5 days or so and I met them for 3. They said...

    Old Woman Plateau

A friend of mine hunted it last year, well his wife had the tag. Anyway, although they did not see a lot of deer, she was able to take a nice 4 point on about the 5th day of hunting. He also had nothing but good things to say about the unit managers.

    Tent question

That tent should do fine on it's own. But a tarp is nice to string up as a shelter for camp. If it's snowing or raining it's nice to have a place to sit besides in the tent.

    wasatch front elk?

In the area I hunt during the extended they are really call shy. I've only tried a few times with cow calls but the results were so bad I gave it up. They just hightailed it out of the area. I've seen guys across a canyon just blowing away on their bugles with no results. (actually I didn't...

Utah LE archery elk spike hunters

Does anyone know what Utah LE archery elk units will have spike hunts going the same time as the bull hunts? I'm trying to decide where I want to put in this year and would rather stay away from the units with the spike hunts going on. Thanks

    Favorite Sight

Since I'm always after a deal (some might say cheap) I had a Tru-Glo 5 pin that wroked just fine but kind of a pain to make small adjustments. I now have a G5 Optix 5 pin that I found for cheap and I really like it. Super easy to adjust, bright pins. I'm going to get the smaller pins for next...

    I'll let you guys decide

Another vote for the 2200. When I killed my elk this year I had a BL Ultra Day and that is NOT an elk pack! If it wasn't for my buddy with his BL 2200 I would have been in deep ...! The meat shelf works great. You could even do a few day bivy with this pack if you wanted to but it doesn't...

    Question about big bulls.

How do you age the meat? I took my bull right to the processor mainly because I had no where to put all that meat, but I didn't get him back for about 4 weeks. The steaks are great.
