    Utah Points Game

I’m 61 but still get around pretty good. But with 13 NR deer points, I’ve been applying for a late muzzyloader tag in a general unit the last 4 years, just trying to hunt. but that hasn’t happened yet.

    Mule Deer

Ryan, These guys gave you some great advice, Wyoming Antelope. My wife and step son's first hunts were antelope. See lots of game, mess up a stalk, a mile down the road, you're stalking another goat. OnX maps or a State GPS chip is huge to tell you what's private and what's public. Lower...

    Jumping Jack Trailers

Just for the record, Steve gave me a great deal and I couldn't be more pleased. Probably paid 40% of a new one. Like someone else said, the "extras" are pricy. Steve had numerous extras, probably $1,000 worth. It's 16' long with the 12' tent. I haven't used it. But I set it up and left it...

    Blackhorn 209 Powder question

Not to steal the thread but since you mentioned cleaning the breech plug, I've soaked mine overnight in solvent, then used a pipe cleaner. Is a proper sized drill bit, it welding tip cleaner better? I was so concerned about it I just bought a replacement breech plug, just in case.

So....life got in the way and I haven’t shot the Thors yet. but I agree 100% with your powerbelt statement. I only tried the 338 grains titanium ones. And with this bullet, in my gun, 100 grains of BH 209 was the best accuracy. with Thor’s, I’m trying both the 250s and the 300s. This is an...

Whats your favorite way to do it ???

#1: Doggie style #2: In my face with a bow, arrow knocked and drawn. Let fly inside of 10 feet. That’s a rush. #3: 600 yards, get steady, tap the trigger. Gets the job done but not the same.

    Quail Babies

Today, June 22nd, I saw my first covey of younguns. Early for here. Maybe the earliest I've seen in 30 years by at least a week. Just hoping it translates to chukar. First year retired and plan on given them hell this year.

    powerbelt elr

I agree your advice was sound....after you started "you don't have to be part of the sheep herd." I guess that added significantly to your comments?? And why do I want to see if I can get accuracy with 100+ grains of BH 209? Because that's what we to. With the 338 gr Powerbelt, my best...

    Unit 40 Late Mule Deer

Never hunted it, but not because of a lack of trying, unsuccessful 12-15 times. Couldn't even draw the archery tag there this year. Rut hunt in a big buck unit. Cover ground, lots of ground, then some more ground. Congrats!

Out of box most accurate hunting rifle.

I can only comment on guns I own which include Browning A Bolts (no X Bolts) But all 3 of the Savage Weather Warriors we own are tackdrivers. Best triggers, outta the box of any guns I own. And I have 2 with the Accustock. I would pay the extra $100 and carry the extra 8 ounces. Looking...

Idaho needs a point system now

please help me out, please. I read Researcher’s post 3 times trying to find out where he was telling Idaho how to run there big game draw. I still can’t find it. I actually got tired of him saying “Idaho can do what it wants to do.” what am I missing? Paragraph and line please. I think I’m...

Idaho needs a point system now

Me too. BUT I argued for a Wyoming type system where residents don't get points and non-residents do since there was so much opposition to a point system from residents. But that would require a "Guarenteed 10%" in stead of "up to 10%." When Idaho moved it application deadline to after...

my first muzzyloader, in the 90s, I sighted it in with the little ball covering the target. 4-5 inch groups at 100 yards. Then I got a fine front blade and groups shrunk in half. fast forward 15 years. I got a new gun and put a scope on it to work up a load. Then I was going to buy a...

    Thor bullets in CVA Accura

I couldn’t get the .501 down the barrel, clean. the .500 made land/groove marks, but just slightly. Probably 15 lbs pressure to seat bullet. I ordered 30 250 grain bullets and 30 300 grain bullets. This year it’s an antelope hunt so whichever is accurate and the flattest. If it was a elk...

I don’t know where you’re at but mail order probably isn’t going to be the way to go right now. I buy most of my stuff in Reno. But 6 weeks ago Cabelas, Scheels, Sportsmans had 0 pistol powder. But a small, over priced gun store on Kietzke Ln had everything I needed, including bullets. so...

    Idaho deer, elk, antelope, bear

I’m not shy since the draw odds already say everybody else applies for the same hunts I do: 54 Muzzy elk 41 rifle antelope 40 archery deer. I really wanted to hunt velvet bucks this year but with 8% draw odds, I’m not holding my breath.

    How big is this goat?

Antelope are hard to score, for me anyways. 1” in length or bases is huge. so I have 3 classes of bucks. 1) That’s a buck. 2) That’s a good buck. 3) That’s a great buck. IMO that’s a great buck. Love his long white tips and how symmetrical he is. personally, the spiked horn buck is butt...

    Would you buy a tag?

I’ve owned a couple of mustangs. Just like any other horse they have their quirks. But for hunting they make a lot of sense. Mine never needed shoeing so they never threw a shoe on a hunt. Seemed more surefooted than most other horses. Didn’t seem as spooky (except for the one time the hot...

You drew a GREAT TAG! Do it right, or you'll regret it. Embrace those on here that have offered help. A wall tent with wood stove is way better than a motel room, plus you can be closer to the action. Plus, if you don't own one, the cost will be similar but you,ll have the wall tent for...

Antelope first week or second week?

For the last 10 years everytime anyone in my family drew a quality tag, I showed up 5-7 days early. Most fun week. No pressure scouting. I realize not everybody can do that, but it's my plan forever.

    Refunds for Moose/Sheep/Goat

Nothing here either. I'd trade that $2000 for my wife's moose application for any deer/elk/antelope tag I applied for. Idaho Fish and Game, are you listening???

    Ok... Who drew a tag

My app for a unit that was 40% last year with 10 PPs didn't pan out this year will 11. But we drew out 1st season, killer meat elk hunt. Weird, we have 2 antelope hunts and a elk hunt, but nothing for deer. I still have a couple of longshots, but me and longshots never seem to work.

What happened to you?? In 2010 I had a muzzy elk tag in Nevada. You posted several times. Your information on a CVA Accura, 338 grain Powerbelts, and BH 209 was extremely accurate. In fact, I followed your advice to a T and got great results. (In fact, I killed my bull with that load, he...

    Colorado 22pts unit 66 4th season?

Applications across the West increased this year. I too hoped to cash in but I think with many staying home, life didn't get so busy they forgot to apply. I put in for a hunt that had a 40% chance of drawing last year with 10 points. I had 11 and was unsuccessful. But I have a plan next year.

    Refunds for Moose/Sheep/Goat

At least as a NR you have the option of getting a refund. As a resident, you don't have that option. So people put in A, B or D zone options and the success rates don't really match the reality since when I don't get my X zone, I don't usually hunt. But it's all about the money.

    Nevada Antelope 61, 62, 64, 71, 73

The information Hunter gave above is accurate. She killed a beautiful 15" buck. But I saw a pig I would have hunted but there was no road between us and him, just a 1,000 foot deep canyon. She missed a better one the day before but it was my fault, told her to hold on the top of his back at...
