Any interest in sharing some wisdom with me? Feel free to pm if you would like. I keep reading that it’s amazing.

    Unit 34 Archery Elk

Resurrecting an old thread. My dad and I got lucky and drew the 2nd archery tag. We’re pumped. Already planning a scouting trip. Anyone have any tips on where we should start or areas to focus on.

Unit 76 vs 40 non resident elk.

Ya you make a great point. We fortunately are both in good shape. We did 12 nights worth of backpack high country deer hunting and probably 30-40 miles of hiking this seas, but dealing with 2 bulls in the thick stuff is a different story. I think we would choose DIY we would be likely to break...

Unit 76 vs 40 non resident elk.

Seems like the general consensus is 40 would be better. We are not expecting a record breaker but I think we would both prefer to have an opportunity at a bigger bull if possible. I have not extensively researched outfitters but it appears as though there are a couple that seems to be named...

Unit 76 vs 40 non resident elk.

My dad and I have 20 points saved and are wanting to hunt sooner rather than later. We had originally planned to try and wait for a unit 61 tag, we have spent a fair amount of time in the unit, but with point creep we still might be another 5-10 years worth of waiting. We’re trying to be done...

    Chasing Colorado Points

Not to hi-Jack a thread but my dad and I are in a similar situation but even less points. We have 18 which I feel is in no man’s land. Any suggestions of what we should do? My dad turns 66 this year and is still in pretty dang good physical condition butb afraid that could change any years. We...

    New long range hunting setup

I honestly forgot about this thread. I ended up gettting my CA mesa in a 300 win mag shooting factory Barnes 180gr TTSX. Zeroed at 200 yds shooting just under 1moa. I put over 150rds through it over the summer and shot very well out to 750yds. Beyond that was a little bit of a struggle depending...

I have 2 Brand new boxes of ammo that my gun doesn’t shoot particularly well that I would like to sell. 70$/box.

New long range hunting set up

I don’t neccesarily disagree with everything said. My goal is to get as close as possible but based on my previous shooting/hunting experiences a 700 yard shot is reasonable given the right circumstance. There are plenty of things to consider when taking that kind of shot. In the areas I...

    New long range hunting setup

It’s looks sweet, the problem will likely be ammo.

    New long range hunting setup

I totally agree on weight, I have a custom 7mm that’s 13 pounds and it shoots a 6-8inch group at 1000yds. With that being said it’s useless for hunting unless you can shoot out of the back of a truck. Interesting to hear that about Barnes, like I said before out to 500 they have performed...

New long range hunting set up

Appreciate the info, hopefully in the next year or so I will have my reloading set up but I’m not there yet. Realistically I would never shoot an animal at 1000yds but I shoot very accurately with my sako 270 out to 500 yards and killed several animals at that distance with factory loaded ammo...

    New long range hunting setup

Thanks for the input, I shoot a lot and have killed several animals between 4-500 yds out with my current set up on a sako85 in a 270. That gun is around 8 pounds without the scope. I get what your saying about those guns being on the lighter side. What would your suggestion be for a longer...

New long range hunting set up

Do you own a tikka or shot one? I have a sako and love it. Hard to beat the action. I’m hoping whatever I decide on will shoot well with Barnes TTSX 180gr. We set up my dad 300wsm last year and he can shoot to 1000yds no problem with factory ammmo. Just can’t find ammo for the dang thing

    New long range hunting setup

Hello everyone, looking for opinions for a moderately inexpensive long range hunting rifle for deer and elk being able to shoot an animal to 7-800 yards. I will be using factory ammo as I am not equipped to reload at the moment what ever rifle I use will be mounted with a leupold vx5hd. I’m...

    Wyoming NR 10 pts

I’ve honestly never hunted G and really never spent much time in the unit. It seems like an amazing hunt but also seems like everyone bashes in it for. It being a great area anymore. Maybe that’s just compared to what it used to be. Is it possible to go in with no previous experience and still...

    Wyoming NR 10 pts

I’d love to hear your experience. If I draw my elk tag this year I will hold of on deer until next year so I’m not anxious to burn my points. I’m also willing to to the expensive tag. It is usually beneficial in those upper point units.

    Wyoming NR 10 pts

If I didn't feel like I was "wasting" so many points on region K that would possibly be my top pick. Do you really think it's worth 10 points?

    Wyoming NR 10 pts

So I am going in to this draw with 10 NR points for deer. Does anyone have any recommendations on hunts to consider? I have max points for elk i'm waiting to hear about so that will determine if I end up applying for deer this year or just collect another bonus point. I am pretty open to ideas...

Wanted WTB Barnes 300 wsm 165g TTSX Ammunition

I would love to buy some Barnes 165g 300wsm. I have a custom rifle set up for this ammo and really don’t want to change ammo. Unfortunately I don’t reload or would go that route. Thanks

270 win 130 grain recommendation for elk

    Utah elk opinion!

I know you haven’t mentioned it but if you are really considering the manti I would consider the Wasatch as well. Very similar bull quality and perhaps an easier hunt if your looking for DIY. 350 might be unrealistic for both units however I’ve never had as much fun as hunting the Wasatch in the...

Well figured I better follow up in this thread. We got back from a great hunt up in 58 with the 7D guys. They are super great guys, and we definitely felt like they were fully invested in our success. Due to the warm weather and lack of snow there were not nearly the number of bulls around as...

    300 WSM

Ya we have called and they basically tell us to check ammo seek lol
  35. idratherbhuntn

    300 WSM

Ya I found some federal premium with the tsx bullet. It’s close but with a custom turret I’m worried it won’t be accurate out past 400yds. They also want 169/box?

    Early Utah rifle buck

Here’s a better picture. He’s only about 20 wide but has great main beams and mass. He surprisingly scores way better than I though initially.
