    ATV Gear/Set Up for Hunting

In all seriousness, I have 2 Yamaha Kodiaks and I have the old fashioned gun racks on the front. I bungee a soft case to the rack and slide my gun in and out from the end. Pretty easy access, keeps my gun padded and protected from the elements and it’s out of the way. Then I just bungee my pack...

    Realistic Expectation

I think this falls into the 90/10 rule. 90% of the big bucks are killed by 10% of the same people. Or so it seems.

    Realistic Expectation

All really good input. And I wholeheartedly agree that just having fun is the most important thing (and that will certainly be done). But at the same time, having invested a quarter of a century into a tag, there's a little more to it. And unfortunately that's what this has turned into...

    Realistic Expectation

I have actually recently come to the realization that I will never be one of these guys that consistently kills big bucks year after year. It's just not in the cards for me. And the reason being is that I do not have the time to put into what it takes to do so and my job is the #1 reason. My...

    Realistic Expectation

At the end of the day, I really hope 190"+ is doable (and I believe it is). But you know how hunting goes.

    Realistic Expectation

Here's 1 more variable for me... my wife drew in 2017 with 11 points and killed a (gross/green) 180" buck after 3 days of hunting. So I feel like 180" might be the VERY bottom of acceptance.

    Realistic Expectation

I have a brain freeze from just being outside and I need to warm up inside and I'm bored for a minute so here's a question... In today's world, what would your "realistic" expectation (for "size") be on a top tier mule deer unit? Here's some variables to consider... How many points did you burn...

    Lates put the pressure on.

I'd probably move back 200 yards to make it an even 1,000 and then let er fly.

    BOOM! 170ish.

    Let’s play again…

Gone forever... (Could regret it later... nice buck) *Also depends on how many days I've hunted.

    Utah CWMUs

My dad had a Mt Carmel tag quite a few years ago. It was a pretty good hunt. I know they used to kill some good deer on Two Bear. Ensign Ranches has some good deer too. There's a "Rosette" CWMU for deer. There's a "Rose of Snowville", but I think that ones antelope only.

CWMU? Vernon is a fun hunt with a bow. 160" might be tough, but they are there. You could probably draw that tag. You could also look at a Paunsy management archery tag. You might be a point or 2 away from drawing a Book Cliffs or Diamond Mountain rifle tag. Just depends on if you're hell bent...

    Hunting Rifle

My go to rifle currently is a Christensen Arms Mesa in a .300 Win Mag. It's topped with a NightForce SHV 5-20X56. I shoot factory Barnes 180 gn TTSX's out of it and I can say that I am pleased with it's performance. After handing it to my teenage son to have him look at some elk @ 600 yards this...

Oak Creeks is way down. Just an FYI post.

There’s never a guarantee in hunting. When I started applying for deer on OC 20+ years ago, I mainly did it because I had already spent time and hunted on that mountain. My dad hunted it as a kid, my grandfather hunted it, my great grandfather hunted, etc… when I started applying, quality of the...

    Backpacking Sleeping Bags

I'm definitely not a warm person. I have an abnormally low heart rate and I think that has something to do with it. I get cold really easy. So staying comfortable is always a concern. I actually pulled the trigger on the Enlightend down quilt.

    ATV or UTV for hunting

I have ATV’s and my wife insisted on recently getting a sideXside. Each one has their place but for me, I like my ATV’s better for hunting. I feel like they are more maneuverable, stable and I can get them places I can’t get a sideXside. So ATV’s are my preference.

Just curious what everyone is using for light weight backpacking sleeping bags? I'll be in the high country in September and am looking for some suggestions.
