If you go with waders, I would maybe just go with something on the cheaper end. I went with the top-of-the-line Simms at the time and it was overkill since you won't be standing in water for long periods of time.

individual points are probably not very exciting... but what if you have areas where you see multiple users marking waypoints... some of those might already be "known" but I bet if you know how to interpret the data, exclude a few variables (like too many people making the same waypoints) it...

True, it’s possible. Although I’ve gone a few times and it’s never been the case. When I say todays prices, I mean the prices the outfitter is quoting you based on when the hunt would be. My point was don’t wait. If you book a couple years out you have time to save.

I'd book something and put down a deposit sooner than later. Just commit and get the ball rolling. You may only have to pay 50% of the day rate to get on the books. Then you can worry about the rest later... It may be a couple of years before you even go and you'll lock in today's prices and...

how about the online draw system. All the other western states had it figured out for years. California had to have it created from scratch instead of just using one of the well-established vendors to handle it.

There is a bit of public land in the unit but good luck. Most of the time they hang out just on the other side of the fence (private). So it's either hunt the very limited public ground, hire a guide that has access or pay a pretty hefty trespass fee.
