What units are you hunting?

I hunted the late cow on the north end four years ago and that is exactly how it was. First three days hundreds of bulls, no cows. Finally found a nice cow the fourth day.

So did you fill that elk tag last fall?!

In the regs you will look at the Diamond cr Zone for info. The "A" tag.

You'll have to hunt archery to do any bull in that area, if I'm not mistaken.

8 is mostly private, but 8A is only a 15 minute drive and has lots of timber company and forest service ground.

Fun! I shot a lot of whitetails in SE Idaho and a bunch up in the palouse. Rather chase them than a mule deer, personal preference, of course.

I'm coming down from Alaska to hunt this hunt over New year's. Planning on coming down from Boise and starting around the 3 creek/ elk mountain area. Do you have any pointers for that country? ( I moved after I pulled the tag...)

Should consider north for disabled vets. Lots of wheeler access.

Turn at humphries and drive back into the modoc creeks / Paul reservoir area. Or turn west at dubois and you can access tons of deer country up the medicine lodge and crooked cr drainages.

8A and 10A have lots of deer and access. Again, anything north of Lewiston fits your bill. Whitetail tag, just have to plop your $ down, always plenty of tags.

Elk are good The winter wasn't as severe as southern Idaho.

If your driving from Colorado, salmon or challis.you could also come in from Montana into the McGruder corridor and access the Church on the south side or the Selway on the north side.

You are probably needing to look into the salmon/Challis country.

We hunted mid October and got bull moose, 6x1 bull elk, and 4x3 mule deer. Moose we're still rutting good.
