I agree with you. I am not even hunting 54 this year, I just figured people who were would want to know so they could make plans.

    Unit 54 closures

I think if the majority of the unit is burnt they ranchers one for next year. I could be wrong however. Right now the fire sits at 100,000 acres and 0% containment. It is not going to be good.

It looks like the forest service is closing alot of the unit until October 30 due to the badger fire. Just saw a map posted online.

    Deer is terrible

LAST EDITED ON Oct-30-19 AT 07:40AM (MST)[p]I am not a biologist like so many people on here seem to be, however I think there is no easy solution. Maybe we should only shoot 180 inch bucks and 400 inch bulls. Then the population would get better. The point is nobody has the answer because there...

    Deer is terrible

Eventually the numbers will get high. My point is that no doe hunts are not the answer. You have to balance the entire thing which is impossible. Between nature and making humans happy it can't be done. Someone will feel wronged no matter what. My family eats what we shoot. I dont trophy hunt...

    Deer is terrible

I know that fawn survival rate is not 100% and I know all babies are not does but let me tell you about ranchers. You have 100 cows and 100 acres. Breed all your cows and they have calves. Year 2 you have 200 cows and 100 acres. Year 3 400 cows and 100 acres. You can see how this works...

    Deer is terrible

Maybe you and I are looking in different parts of the unit? I know most people hunt mt harrison and independence. I am fortunate enough to spend alot of time in many other parts of 55 and my experience is there are lots of deer. Not sure where you are looking.

    Deer is terrible

We could tax all of the Californians that are moving here. Obviously you are a moron. I was not being serious, I know that they will never get rid of non-resident hunters. My point was if the deer numbers are down then they can't have as many hunters. Unfortunately that is fact.

    Deer is terrible

I agree with getting rid of the 2 tag deal. How about Idaho gets rid of non-resident hunters and in order to qualify for residency you have to live in Idaho for a minimum of 10 years. That should help a bunch.

Probably because there are a lot of does there. Just an idea.

    IDFG Elk Depredation Kill

How do these ranchers always have numerous land owner tags? I believe that the land owner tag system is still a draw of some kind and in order to be eligible for more than one tag you must have lots of land. If it is a draw you would not be guaranteed a tag every year. Maybe I am mistaken.

    IDFG Elk Depredation Kill

I know the Oakley rancher that you are speaking of. We have a ranch across the way from him and run cows together. Actually we are distant relatives by marriage. Needless to say he is not selling any tags for 1000's of dollars. As a matter of fact most of their ground is blm and forest service...

    IDFG Elk Depredation Kill

Depredation tags? That is another interested thing we can discuss. Depredation tags and landowner tags are not handed out by the thousands like everyone seems to think that they are. Also most ranchers are not making money "selling" these tags. Most ranchers dont care because they are too busy...

    IDFG Elk Depredation Kill

Processing 30 elk is quite a task. He must still be busy cutting and wrapping. Usually these things are hear say and rumors. I always hear about a rancher I know and how many elk they kill a year but if you knew the truth it is all started by people who are jealous of landowners. The fish and...

    43 wow what happened?

I guess 55 is open archery. I have property there and spend lots of time there and don't usually see a ton of Washington plates on trucks. Mostly eastern Idaho and Utah.

    43 wow what happened?

55 has never been an open hunt. I personally hunt to eat the game I could care less about the horn size. Everyone does it the way they want which is fine. If you like letting them live to get bigger go ahead but someone else might shoot it in the mean time. I guess if that is not ok with you...

    RE: Idaho 55-controlled buck hunt

RE: Idaho 55-controlled buck hunt Good for you guys. My daughter had her first deer tag this year in 55 and we were not even able to turn up a doe for her to get. It was a weird year and we saw few deer. That is how it goes I guess.

    Trespass law??

Looks like we will have to be careful about where we are at when we hunt. I have knowingly hunted some land that was private. You know if you are being shady or honest. It is up to you to use your morals and ethics and do the right thing. In this day and age of technology it isn't hard to figure...

    Trespass law??

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-18 AT 10:25AM (MST)[p]I would think if a landowner has not posted his land in the past and has allowed all people to access it that he will not care if they still do it. If he were concerned about trespassers he would of posted it already. The law will only affect...

    Trespass law??

People keep saying that but I don't know how it would close off land. If it was private before it still is private. If the landowners gave permission to you before he probably still will.

    Trespass law??

What is the latest with this? I thought the governor signed it into law but I don't have more specifics. What do we need to know about it? It seems like the forums talking about it all died off.

    HB 536

Just a good story real quick. The last guy we caught hunting in our place was from out of state. Theft of Elk Camp Unit 46-2 Idaho

Turns out from reading the Idaho forum he set up his camp on private property and the sheriff allowed the land owner to take it down and give it back to him when he asked for it. Nobody stole anything he just thinks because there is land there he should be allowed to use it.

Idaho Unit 51 late MZ hunt

Idaho Unit 51 late MZ hunt

I have seen animals that limped and had been that way for a long time. People have no way of knowing if you shot one or if it was limping for other reasons. Not really a grey area, whoever kills and tags the animal takes possession of it. As far as seeing your truck and keep driving I don't...

Theft of Elk Camp Unit 46-2 Idaho

I would think if it was set up on private property the sheriff might let the landowner take it down and when the tent owner calls to file a complaint the sheriff would know where to find the tent. Maybe you accidentally set it up on private property. Lots of ranchers don't post it or lock gates.
  40. I

Theft of Elk Camp Unit 46-2 Idaho

Any luck on finding your tent? Were you set up close to a road or way back? I can't believe what people are willing to do. Any luck hunting?
