    Alton CWMU

I'm looking at booking a hunt down there next year and saving my points for the Henrys. As far as bonus points are concerned; the last I saw was it took 15 points to draw. Perhaps things have changed?

    Gunnison buck

TriState could have said it more eloquently, but he is correct. The deer don't care about fair chase, neither do cougars, wolfs, or bears, or any other predator. Fair Chase is strictly a human concept forced on the natural world. To a deer, dead is dead. What is actually "fair" is like debating...

    Gunnison buck

I Don't support Mossback. I can't verify he uses unethical tactics, but I reasonably believe what is said about him. I have no problem with late season hunts, or Governor's Tags. Sounds like sour grapes to me. What's next knocking people who drew the strip or the Henry Mnts. as having an unfair...

    Elk 2nd rifle units 80 & 81

coelk, thanks for the 411. Would the area be good for 300" bulls? It seems seems like a nice OTC tag. My plan is be to be in an area where I could take a 6 point bull while banking my points for a better area. I have a friend of a freind who could help me hunt 80-81, which would be an advantage...

    Alton CWMU

My concern is should I burn 15 point there? I could always buy a guided hunt on the general season area that they offer and bank points for antelope Island, or the Henerys. If I burn my points down there I will not live long enough to draw out in another premium area, and if things go badly, my...

    Alton CWMU

Hi guys, I have a quick question for those who have hunted the Alton CWMU. I was talking to Wade today and he said they no longer guide the public hunters and that it was pretty thick country down there. He also mentioned that the traditional spot and stalk strategy that most mule deer hunters...

    Proposed License Fee Increases

I hunt both private and public in Wyoming. You can never have enough access. Resident and Non Resident should be treated equally. In regards to the fee increases, I told the G&F that they would decrease the number of NR DIY hunters that live in close proximity to Wyoming. The NR hunter who...

    Proposed License Fee Increases

Smokestick, I can see you supporting your constituents, However I would not support any agreement that would open up lands to residents and deny access to DIY Non residents. The net result is the DIY non resident hunter either gets screwed by the state in a rate increase, or gets hosed by being...

200 inch net bucks for utah, please read

Elk, I agree the deer herds need help. I was talking to a DNR person and he said it was mostly the loss of habitat, roads and road kill, and old growth that produces little forage. Hopefully we can work together and increase deer numbers.

I have a better idea. Those who can't pass 4th grade English can't draw a deer tag.

    Wyoming Whitetails??

There are some good whitetails up north around Sundance. There is a national forest up there and some scattered tracts of state land. If you can find some next to a farmer's field , you should do well. The website for the state trust land is lands.state.wy.us Do your homework and you should do fine.

    1100 Yards is Too Close

Just did the math. If the hunter is shooting the 750 grain Hornady A-max at 2728 fps muzzle velocity (factory load), at 1100 yards his bullet would have 1867fps and 5807 foot pounds of energy. assuming 1800fps minimum for expansion, he is within the performance envelope of his cartridge. and...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

Me and another hunter shot 2 cow elk on Deseret Land and Livestock a couple of years ago, it was a one shot, one kill for both of us. I didn't think much of it, but the guide was way impressed. I asked him how many shots people usually needed. He replied , "The record is 57." In my experience...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

The problem with this thread is people trying to tell each other what to do. Again ethics is a personal thing. Some hunters are accomplished marksmen, other are not. Until you see someone shoot, it is difficult to judge. For years I was turned off to bow hunting because bow hunters would always...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

Stonefly, Thanks for letting me clarify. I"m not advocating long range muzzleloader shots. The point was to emphasize that ruling by ethics leads to bad game laws and that using science leads to good game laws. The muzzleloader thing was just an example of a RAC Committee Leader making a bad...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-12 AT 08:44AM (MST)[p]If the carrying capacity of the land is 100 deer and there are 130 deer on the land, then 30 have to go. Wyoming has more antelope than people. One reason they have that many antelope is that they follow this rule and have a limited quota season. Years...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

I agree with 2_point. Like I said, if he can really make that kind of shot, he's really good. Things get dicey for me at matches at 600 yards. My longest shot on game to date is 423 yards. One shot one kill. In my opinion hunter ethics has no place in scientific game management. For the deer it...

    1100 Yards is Too Close

To each his own. An 1100 yard shot is very difficult to make. My hat is off to him if he is the "real deal" and not just a wanna be "long ranger". Important thing to remember is that we are all hunters and our real enemy is the anti-hunters out there. It may not be your flavor, but that is why...
