    New Mexico Sheep draw

If you are planning on applying using the Outfitter Pool and go the guided route, look at the Outfitters that will float your money and apply for you using their money. This way it doesn't cost you anything and you still get the benefit of applying in NM through the Outfitter Pool's draw odds...

Valles Caldera - 6B Educate Me

Plus one here. This would be the quickest route from Carlsbad via Santa Fe to Pojoaque, then up to Los Alamos and around the checkpoints via the ice skating pond. Then it's a hop skip and a jump to the Caldera.

    NM UNIT 15

There's a lot of wolves around the Quemado Lake Area and they keep the elk moving around alot. If you find a nice bull get on him quick because he won't be around for long.

Planning a Caribou Hunt for 2024

So I'm planning a caribou hunt for 2024 and would like any helpful information. I am leaning towards a guided hunt only because of all of the logistics to work through on a DIY hunt but have not ruled it out yet. My research is showing that the caribou numbers are down in many areas, so where...

    Something to look at

Congratulations! I'm sure getting this bull eased the pain of missing the big one. There are always coulda, shouldas and what ifs when things don't work out but that's just part of hunting and life. Still a great bull and a great hunt.

    Rangefinding binoculars vs handheld rangefinder.

All rangefinders are electronic devices that will eventually fail. And with a rangefinding bino you are left with a heavy pair of binos that you paid a lot more money for.

    Game management

NM has ALWAYS been about money and budgets for the G&F and not about wildlife management or even trophy management. This issue goes back decades. Reactive management is not good management but this was cleary evident with our deer herds. The G&F didn't lower the licenses in some units until...

Broadheads for longer distance with the new Raven crossbows

Slick tricks as a two blade fly very well indeed.

Broadheads for longer distance with the new Raven crossbows

For muleys and speed goats you can get away with expandables like Rage, but for fixed blade I recommend American Broadhead Company with the Sonic head. I practice with that out to 100 yds with my bow.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. I went ahead and purchased some browning cams because of the selection availability on amazon. But I was leaning heavily towards the Stealth cams also.

    6.5PRC Christensen Arms

The 6.5prc is a great choice for a young hunter to start with and grow with. And with the right bullets and shot placement it will get the job done on elk. As for scopes you can't go wrong with Vortex or Leupold.

    Trail Cameras - Seeking Advice

Greetings fellow hunters. I'm in the market for some trail cameras and would like some feedback on what brand and models you like. I don't want cheap cameras or high end cameras. I'm afraid of theft on the high end cams. Also, no wifi cams as the areas I get into are too remote. I'm looking for...

Unit 48 is all State Land checkerboarded with private. There are only a couple of designated camping spots, (totally undeveloped). Download the maps with coordinates from the G&F website. Call the State sheep biologist Eric Rominger. He's a great guy and will tell you where the bigger ewe herds are. Then look at your access points and determine the distance to hike in and plan your hunt from there.
