Elk hunting with a bear tag in Colorado

If the oak brush has a good crop of acorns this is where I would focus......plus the elk will be feeding on them too. A good crop really puts a lot of bear in the same elevation zone and makes it a little easier to find them.

    Colorado Early Rifle Options

I'd say drought and Covid layoffs more than the snow. The snow just made it difficult to get around and the drought had burnt up most of the vegetation. I spoke to a hiker who lived in Lake City. He said the traffic on the Alpine Loop this year was up a staggering amount. Don't hold me to this...

    Colorado Early Rifle Options

Had the 65 early rifle tag this year. Between drought, freak snow storm, and 10,000 hikers the hunt was pretty much a bust. Freaking hikers and their dogs every single day in every basin I was watching. Some of these hikers had to be 6-8 miles from vehicles. Can't remember if it was 21 or 31...

    Any recurve bow hunters?

If anyone can get it done it's you Dan! Took me 2 years till I tagged anything and was beginning to doubt my choice. Makes you think a little outside the box at times haha.

    Any recurve bow hunters?

Been strictly recurve for 7 years or so now. Really enjoy shooting and hunting with it. I've had some chances at BIG bucks and bulls that if I still hunted with a compound would probably be on the wall but I don't worry about it. Just enjoy my time in the woods anymore.

    Archery Elk Shot Distance?

In my post above I was not saying 120 yards is a shot to take. I was trying to say don't setup where you can even see 120 yards. Elk want to see what they're looking for and if you setup in open timber they might hang up out of range. Get setup within your comfortable shooting range. People...

    Archery Elk Shot Distance?

I hunt where it's pretty thick and nasty so when setting up to call, I always make sure I can't see any farther than I want to shoot. If that distance is 20,30, 90 whatever. Different story if hunting wide open terrain but you can still use topography to keep the distance closer. If the bull...

    Colorado Unit 66 or 67?

I can't compare 66 and 67 cause I've only hunted 67 and only know hunters who've hunted 67. I bow hunted 67 a few years ago. Tough unit to bow hunt but the 3rd and 4th seasons can be great if the weather was right. Have a buddy that's hunted 67 2 or 3 times and his father has hunted it a couple...

    kowa 664ed spotting scope

I have the 663ed and love it! The threaded cap is kinda a pain but my only small issue with it is a slightly narrow FOV. Very clear scope the whole way to 60x and super light weight. I have a Swaro ATX, Meopta S2 and a Vortex Skyline but the 663 is hands down the best bang for the buck. Yes the...
