Elk are up high early, around timberline(ish)... Lots (I think) of hunting pressure, unless you get 1+ miles from a road/trail.

I'd say a 160 inch buck is a first day shooter in 76... Lots of deer, but they don't seem to get real big.

What a joke!! CDOW continually finds new ways to hack me off. Why not allow online sales at the same time as phone and walk-in? Why not give the "premium" tags that were turned back in to the people with enough minimum points to draw them and then take their points? I'd sign up for that...

I have a custom Stalker recurve, love that bow!! That said, I just bought a Samick Sage Deluxe for my fiance' and two young boys, with lighter limbs. It a lot nicer bow than the "origional" Sage!! Shots well and feels pretty good in hand. I think I will buy some heavier limbs for it to use...

My Verizon phone has service most times on that side of the Plateau. Texts work great, actual calls not as good but usually doable... I have noticed that my "hotspots" for cell coverage up there change from year to year slightly.

The fire is over 65% contained now and has not grown in size for almost a week... Things are looking up!!

Beech18, Like you, this year I drew my first sheep tag!! I bivy hunt for elk almost every year, so I try to stay in pretty good shape year-round. This summer I have added squats/lunges to my workouts on weight lifting days. (I HATE lunges...) I still run 3-5 miles per day or ride my bike...

It USED to be a great turkey area.... Fires and over-hunting have hurt it. Also, people on the NM side feed the turkeys in the spring. This holds the birds down low and out of the area for a little longer than normal. Still some birds there though... Later in the season is better.

I've lived here 7 years now, never seen it snow during first season... If it did, it would likely melt the next day.
