    Dream Sheep Gun

I have taken them with a pre-64 Win Model 70 in .300 Win Mag, my tried and true Sako 85 in .270 Win, and the last one with a Sako Finnlight in .300 WSM (also took a mountain goat with that rifle). I have pretty much decided the Finnlight is my mountain rifle from here on out. 7 1/4 lbs all...

    Swarovski NL Pure 12x42's?

I got mine from Outdoorsmans two days ago. I will be selling my EL 10x42s. All the over-the-top reviews are right on about the NLs.The ergonomics are a game-changer. They are lighter and simply feel like an extension of your hand. For that reason, I can hold them much more steady than my 10x...

    WWYD? Wrong animal from taxi?

A taxidermist had one job. He totally botches it. In the process, a memento of a son’s hunt is lost never to be recovered. And Tri’s response is basically “Get over it.” Why am I not surprised?

    Randy Newberg you tube

I’d say he’d be pretty pleased with the consensus here. Even Mother Teresa would get 2-3 guys bashing her in this day and age of the trolls.....

    Randy Newberg you tube

He seems like a genuinely good man. I enjoy his show and appreciate his work for conservation and public lands. I can see how some might not love his style, but can’t understand why anyone would actively dislike him.

    swaro z5 with turret

I like mine and agree with the above. It’s a great scope for those of us who don’t shoot ultra long range. Very simple and intuitive. Mine stays consistent as you change settings no problem. Their ballistics calculator has been pretty close also but not exact. Which is not a problem. Altitude...

    Tripods

I have noticed over many years that most of the time folks are comparing other optics to Swarovski and other tripods to Outdoorsman’s. Whenever you notice that trend it speaks volumes.

    Eastmans mrs section

Let my subscriptions drop after 20+ years. Just photo spreads, thinly-veiled product placements, and the MRS section is just about useless now. They have been left in the dust by other magazines and internet services. Sad to see...

    Guns as an investment???

Yes I have a hard time envisioning a world in which the young people of today are as interested in old guns as my generation and the ones above me are. Thus, the market for them as an investment seems dim....

    Guns as an investment???

I collect guns because I enjoy it. I have made some good deals and have some desirable pieces. Still, I would be ecstatic to break even on them when (and if) I sell them. There are much better investments than guns. Especially when the time value of money is considered (as it always should be)...

    Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society

Your post said they “never” post any of the raffle winners. A week after the drawing is a far cry from “never”. I have seen all the raffle winners posted in past years. I don’t remember the exact timing but it was soon enough after the drawings that I never thought anything was amiss.

    What would you do?

Considering the current situation with WY moose tags I would go moose hunting while I still could.

    Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society

IIRC the drawings are held via live feed and the winners are posted for all to see shortly after the drawing. I have never heard anything negative about this organization. The 2020 raffle winners drawn so far are right there on their website.

    Sheep mounts?

Nothing personal at all, but half-body mounts have always looked very weird to me. I much prefer either full body or pedestal/shoulder mounts.

    Yvon Chouinard on Meateater

About sums it up for me also. You can't help but admire a man who's accomplished what he has. I agree with him on many, if not most, things outdoors-related. Yet it does always amaze me how some guys who are so obviously smart can be so incredibly wrong on some issues.

    Lead ban coming

The War On Science is all the rage now. Folks who wouldn't know the scientific method from the rhythm method can yuk it up about how science doesn't mean crap - and that's the way it is these days. Among other things, it will ultimately be our downfall.

Colorado's weighted point fee for sheep?

I just look at all these costs as a donation to sheep conservation and wildlife conservation in general. Because they literally are. This makes the whole system much easier to swallow for me.

    NR Preference Points Change

3D nailed it for me. It's one thing to pay a huge part of a state?s freight as a NR and get crumbs in return. It's another thing for the residents of those states to figuratively slap you in the face for your troubles.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-19 AT 03:32PM (MST)[p]LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-19 AT 03:29?PM (MST) For $315 a NR can hunt anything in Texas except draw animals (desert sheep, pronghorn). There are minor charges for some ?endorsements?. Draw animal costs are extremely low and all chances (R and NR) go in...

    NR Preference Points Change

Again, no clue. Either that or you're just embarrassed now and have to try and save face. The total cost of every stamp (or ?endorsement? as you wrongly call them) one could buy added together is negligible. They are like the $10-12 conservation or habitat stamps western states often require.

I think it's funny when residents act like they own all the animals and pay all the freight for their care in their states - and that NRs therefore have no right to opinions.
