    Tater Tot Casserole

I'm guessing most of you end up with lots of burger and are always looking for things other than tacos, burgers, chili and meatloaf. I've really been liking this with canned green beans or canned corn mixed in. Makes good leftovers too. Will try to post pics of the finished product tonight.

    Italian Meatballs

Like most other cooks here, I'm always trying to find unique ways to use up my burger meat. There are numerous recipes on the internet. I baked mine at 400 for about 20 mins. Came out pretty good!

    Classic Buck Steaks

My fall back meal. One of the better youngish mulies I've shot. Slightly pounded although probably didn't need it. Shaken in flour after seasoned with salt and pepper with garlic powder. In the flour for over an hour and shaken every 20 mins. Fried in medium hot canola oil and the first turn...

    Pheasant

I blew this one. I had it in the oven too long. It was DRY! Add to that the wife bit down on a #5 pellet..... luckily no dental work needed. Pan seared in butter and baked at 300 in honey and butter. Recipe called for 20-30 mins. I did 25 and should have checked at 15.

    Backstrap wellington

Always wanted to try this, but was afraid to screw up such a prime cut. Wrapped in mushroom and shallot paste then proccuito. Store bought puff pastry. Pretty happy how it came out.

    Coyotes near Show Low

Wife and I retired here in Lakeside in April. Obviously it's not prime winter coat season, but I'm looking for something to do. Bought my NR license and also know there are tons of public lands nearby. Tried a couple of times in the timber country east of Lakeside but it doesn't look like...

    cci #11 caps

Haven't hunted much muzzleloader for many years, but imagine my surprise that percussion caps are not to be found. I have some 30 year old caps that I've been doing load development with, but can anyone help a brother out. Only looking for 200-300 tops. The mercenaries on GunBroker are pirates!

    ID 52A

After not drawing my CO 61 muzzy tag with 25 NR points, I took a wild swing at this hunt.....and drew! Never been there. Thinking the final week (season ends Nov 24 I think) that there should be pretty good rut action taking place? Also at that time of year I'm probably wanting to motel hunt...

    Unit 10 Cow Hunt

I've seen some cow tags for sale in unit 10 in December. Is this something a fella could pull off? Will they be on public? Are there nominal trespass fees possible? Thanks.

    TC Impact Loads

New to the muzzy page, but not MM. Hoping to draw a CO muzzy elk tag this year after many years as a CA wine farmer that could never hunt in September, until now in retirement. I just bought the TC Impact and am interested in CO compliant loads. I'm considering power belts or good old maxi...

    Another PP Ask

Sitting on 25 NR elk points. I've been a grape grower for 43 seasons and could never go during prime time. I have a buddy with one less point and we're thinking about doing the two year system.....one hunts, the other is support. Prefer first rule but have muzzleloaders as well. Don't want to...

    Borrowed Rifle....and Ammo

I waited 13 years for my cape buffalo hunt. Developed a great 270 grain TSX load for my .375 H&H. Then with Covid and flight changes, my travel agent had me changing planes in Amsterdam. Apparently it is not a gun friendly country. Luckily my PH is one of my lifelong friends and hooked me...

    Don't Hate Us.

My wife and I are leaving Commiefornia and moving to Pinetop-Lakeside in the next 15 months. Just can't take it anymore. Don't worry we're not bringing any CA politics with us. We will tread lightly.

    CA Yote

I moved to the vineyard I manage in August and was blown away by how many coyotes were singing all night. Well after harvest we decided to get busy. Between trapping and calling we've got 7 dogs in 6 weeks. This one was called in with a Lucky Duck Revolt shot with my trusty 7mm-08.

    SW Colorado

By far the best buck we saw after 2 scouting days and 3 days of hunting. We were hunting on a patchwork of private north of Cortez. My buddy with the OTC elk tag got nothing. Saw 200-400 head a day and never a legal bull.

    Dogs?

Anyone heard if dogs will be prohibited from hunting deer this season.
  23. CHWino_1

    No More Deer Dogs

Its been pretty much confirmed that we won't be able to hunt deer with dogs this coming season. They screwed the bear hunters years ago, so its only normal we would be next. No lead bullets....now no dogs. I did hear that over 40 states don't allow dogs while deer hunting...interesting.

    Going One More Time

Just heard from my good buddy in RSA saying I HAVE to come back and shoot my buffalo. I've booked numerous hunts for my good friend Andre Viljeon over the years. I've been his west coast booking agent for years. I've been 3 different times to Nambia and RSA and my last time I shot 9 animals...

    Good luck A zoners!

This year will be somewhere around the 30th year that our group will assemble for the A zone rifle opener. One young man will drive 6 hours to join up with us. Friday night will be the infamous $10 bocce ball game. This usually takes over an hour and a few beverages to complete. Possibly the...

    Ever been to.......

......that private museum on hwy 93 north of Jackpot NV? My wife and I stopped there about 20 years ago and then again this week. The owner of the place was there. We know because he was in all of the pictures of many of the animals taken. Not only a great display of taxidermy but the arrow...

    Mark Peterson TV Show

I've been enjoying this show on Pursuit channel. He's a matter of fact type guy. Doesn't mug for the camera. Not as full of himself like Shockey (I don't mind Shockey). Worth a look either on TV or youtube.

    Good Luck A Zoners

Here we go again! There will be 9 of us this year opening up the season. Our annual mountain bocce/hunting/cook out/campout at my brothers camp in the redwood grove near Philo, CA. We'll be beating the brush and running my bros dog. We've been pretty lucky the past couple of years and hope...

    Varget for M1A

I'm not a high volume poster but thought I'd share this one. I bought a Springfield M1A about 6-7 years ago. I wasn't expecting great accuracy from this gun. Its not the match grade rifle just the standard rig. As I'm a reloader I HAD to do some tinkering. I held to the very old Zedeker...

    2017 SD Trip

It's 25 hours of road time (one way) from California, so you better like who your traveling with and hope the hunting is good. Both were true. Got some good mulies, birds and a couple of hours of praire dog shooting as well. This was central South Dakota (Missouri River in background)

    Guest Hunter

Ok. So I posted on the California page but it wasn't enough. Not every day you get an international hunting goddess staying in your house and hunting next door. Melissa Bachman is beautiful, fun and a heckofa hunter. We had some pretty hot weather (temps near 95) but she got it done. Thanks...

    A Zone Opener

None of us know for sure, but we guessed that some of our group has been celebrating the opening of A zone for 30 years. Now some have sons joining us. We camp, we cook we play bocce ball and we hunt a bit depending on how hot it is. Never before have we shot 3 bucks in one weekend let alone...

    TV Hunting folks

Seems like a good topic this time of year when we're all shut indoors and not much to watch. My gal has been out of town for a few days and I've even ventured to shows I wouldn't normally watch. So I'll ask who's your favorite TV hunting personality? Maybe your top 2 or 3? Favorite hunting...

    Southern Colorado Bull

I feel very lucky to have been able to hunt a great piece of private ground for the second time. I got a nice bull in 2014 and this year too. The only bull I saw and on the last night of 4 hunting days to boot. His ivories were worn down to nothing.

    Here We Go!

A zone rifle opener tomorrow. Looks like there will be 8 of us. Nothing like beating the brush in 100 degree weather. Bocce ball and a bit of pond time will certainly be on the docket.
