    Bison tag

I drew a 385-20 bison tag. I realize it depends on migration out of the park, but if there is any information on any part of this hunt anyone would like to share such as caliber, bullet weight, tools for field dressing, how many people I need helping, etc. I would appreciate any knowledge I can...

I would agree with the ol cliche buy the best glass you can afford. I have tried a few over the years and settled on the Swarovski 20x60x65. Easy to pack and easy on your eyes after a long day of glassing. If your looking to spend a little less leupold and vortex makes super light backpacking...

    Unit 34 Elk

I was hunting in a transition zone where it changed from pines to junipers. Found an area that I could see a long distance in many directions. Patient glassing!! Day one was spent in one spot from dark to dark. Look at a map of the whole unit and find the least amount of roads

    Unit 34 Elk

Finding a high spot to be at daylight and Lots of glassing at first light! We spotted 8 different bulls in the first hour by 8 am all were bed down and could only pick them up with a spotting scope. Came in from a different angle next morning and connected at first light.

    Unit 34 Elk

congrats on drawing a great tag. I hunted elk there in 2017 on a muzzleloader hunt. IMO you probably drew one of the best elk tags for a first timer due to the fact there's a lot of public land and elk anywhere you look. Good luck and go buy a lotto ticket.

I'm sure you will have a good hunt and an opportunity at a nice buck. I would make sure to listen to what they have to offer in knowledge then schedule a few extra days to spend some time to learn areas around there. With a little effort, maps and homework you should be able to harvest the same...

Help - Need a Muzzy Load for Elk and Moose

The hunt was awesome!! in bulls everyday. I drew unit 34 and did a diy on public land. my grouping was good out to 300 yds but my confidence in bullet performance was 250 yds. when I zeroed gun in I cleaned after every round, once zeroed I shot a clean bore and two follow shots with fouled bore...

Help - Need a Muzzy Load for Elk and Moose

I too had this same question last year. I drew a new mexico muzzleloader elk tag. After all the load checking, shooting and help from this forum I ended up using 120g of 777 and 290g Barnes. It grouped extremely well and performed flawlessly. That being said 209 is great too. I would figure...

Dad pulled COLORADO unit 76 tag! NEED HELP

I hunted this area 20 years ago. The air is thin so being in best shape possible is key. We camped where the rio grande river starts around 11k feet. Seemed liked every drainage held elk but the bigger bulls were up above timber line and always over the the first ridge away from the roads. Good luck

    muzzleloader elk load

    muzzleloader elk load

As I am sitting here waiting patiently for New Mexico and Montana draw it makes me reflect on last years hunt. I want to thank everyone again for the response I received on a load for elk. Unit 590 elk, 6 points NR Ideas on who to hunt with?

I drew that tag as a NR myself in 2016 with 6 points. Set your standards high as there are some great bulls there. Access to private land is a big asset weather you hire an outfitter or gain permission to a ranch.

    Unit 590 elk

I've hunted 590 many times for deer and was lucky enough to draw rifle bull tag in 2016. That being said the ranchers in that area have a way of grazing there cattle on public land right before seasons. A lot of public land is also land locked. A lot of work and little luck it could still be done

    muzzleloader elk load

I shot 110g and 120g of triple seven, both grouped well. I am going with the 120gr load. I have a leupold muzzloader scope and the 120g load was right on with the yardage crosshairs, and with 1800' muzzle velocity the bullet should perform out to 250yds.
