Bit the bullet and booked a first season rifle elk hunt for my son with Mike Lawson. He moved to CO a few years back for work. Finally making good use of the points I started buying when he was a kid!!

If I start my hunt on 10/8 instead of 10/1 do I run the risk on missing the best part of the rut/hunt?

Now that I’ve got the tag and have a general idea where we will be starting. I’ll have about 8-10 days to hunt. From others experience, when can we estimate the peak of the rut?

They put me in the draw, I drew a breaks sheep tag in 2019.

I applied for unit 26 with 24 non resident points, I feel good about my chances in the draw. Should know next Friday.

Near max, yes. I say I should have enough because you never can 100% predict what other NR point holders will apply for. I’m going for it this year for sure..

My son moved to Colorado a few years back and now is in a position with his resident points to draw a 3rd or 4th season unit 44 mule deer tag. I’d like to arrange a hunt for him. I’d consider an outfitter if there is one that hunts the unit? Any recommendations? JD
