Unit 30 3rd Season Rifle Deer

My 2 brothers, brother-in-law, and I have 13 NR CO deer points. We're looking at burning them this year on Unit 30 3rd season rifle. We've only hunted CO once and that was for elk in 2020. This would likely be our one & only deer hunt in CO. Mainly we're just looking for a fun hunt with good...

    Elk recovered 6 months later

I just read the story in the dead head thread in the Utah forum about the guy who was able to recover his lost bull 6 years later. Similar thing happened to me this year, only I didn't have to wait that long. Last year on a Utah late season elk hunt, I shot a bull that we were not able to...

    Harvest Data

I've been looking back through Utah harvest data on the DWR website. Several of the success percentages seem to be off slightly. One example: 2019 EB3071 Southwest Desert Late Elk shows 25 harvests out of 35 permits / hunters afield. 25/35 = 71.4%. But the success percentage listed is 70.6%...

    Trail Camera vs Wildfire

If anyone has ever wondered what happens to a trail camera in a wildfire.... Memory card was not recovered. I like to think it took some great pictures of the fire before it died.

    Hogs on Southwest Desert?

These are trail camera pictures from Southwest Desert, taken at 6am on June 4 of this year. Anyone else who's familiar with that area ever seen one of these out there? Or have any idea where it could've come from?

    Daughter's First Deer

I love reading all the stories and seeing all the success our youth hunters are having. My oldest daughter also got her first deer this year. We made a stalk on a bigger buck opening morning, but he gave us the slip and we never saw him again. We kept hunting hard and it all came together 3...

Bear tries to climb into my treestand

Pretty obvious now that this bear was just curious. But for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with bears, it definitely made me nervous at the time.

    Taxidermy Question

I've got a black bear hunt coming up in May with my dad and two brothers in Alberta. We all live in Utah and Nevada. Between the four of us, we're interested in everything from rugs to full body mounts (assuming we're successful). After the hunt, we'll have a 10-hour return trip, between three...

    Bear taxidermy question

I've got a black bear hunt coming up in May with my dad and two brothers in Alberta. We all live in Utah and Nevada. Assuming we're successful, we could have as many as eight bears. Between the four of us, we're interested in everything from rugs to full body mounts. Does it make more sense to...

Trail cam photo - mountain lion attacking an elk

I was skimming through my last round of trail cam photos and just about skipped over this one. It was taken late in the evening so the quality isn't that great, but still an amazing photo. (Youtube video highlighting what's what in the photo: )

    Goofy Bull

Here are some pics of a really goofy bull that I got on trail camera last year. Aside from what appears to be a gimpy right front leg, I think there may be something wrong with him. He just doesn't look healthy to me. What do you think?

    Credit Card Hits?

I just got a text from a friend who said his credit card got hit for $40 today by "PP*UTAHSPORTSH" and thinks it's most likely his resident general deer permit. I thought we didn't find out for a few more weeks. Anyone else seen a credit card hit yet?

A buddy was hunting and had several close encounters with this bull in Wyoming. Pictures are from video so not the best quality. Any guesses on what he would score?

    Cemetery Buck - Video

I was in the area yesterday and had some time to kill between meetings. So I thought I'd swing in the cemetery and see if I could get some video of this buck. Didn't take long to find him.

    Utah moose herd

Just looking over the new draw odds and statistics. Resident bull moose tags down from 120 in 2011 to 106 in 2012. Cache unit down from 8 tags in 2011 to 4 in 2012. Seems like there were close to 30 bull tags when I hunted that unit in 2010. Are the moose herds really struggling that badly? Just...

    Kenetrek Boot Repair

I have a pair of Kenetrek hunting boots that have taken a lot of abuse over the past few hunting seasons. I take good care of them, but they have some pretty big scuff marks in the leather, particularly on the backs of the heels. Does anyone know of a good product or method to repair this? Thanks.
