License Distribution/Preference Points Focus Group For Future Seasons

Talk about the resource being stretched thin. We have about 700,000 resident deer hunters in a much smaller area and very long seasons. I agree not many western hunters would make the drive to hunt deer in this situation.

License Distribution/Preference Points Focus Group For Future Seasons

I love preference points. They are the epitome of fair and make drawing pretty predictable, allowing hunters to plan. Many workplaces require vacations to be scheduled by the beginning of the year.

Point Banking is on the Agenda for CPW Changes

Agree. I'm a NR and we come to Colorado every other year, getting a PP in the off year. We study the draw histories and know what we can draw. How can you make plans and schedule vacation if you don't have a good idea what you can draw. A random draw kills that. As for the premium units, I...

License Distribution/Preference Points Focus Group For Future Seasons

I'm a NR and I can't believe how you residents think you have so much more right to hunt than NRs. Here in NW Pennsylvania, we have tons of Ohio hunters and no one argues they shouldn't be here. My sons and I look forward to our Colorado hunts every other year. If they cut the NR % of tags, that...

License Distribution/Preference Points Focus Group For Future Seasons

If that happened, it would probably end our Colorado hunting trips. What we've been doing is coming out every other year and getting a PP in the off years. This has enabled us to draw our tag consistently which means we are able to make plans and schedule vacations from work. Not having that...

    CO 3rd Season Success

Great bucks. We hunted 3rd in unit 3, but I don't know how to post pics from my phone. Two of us tagged out with small bull elk and one pretty good buck and one smaller 3x3. We saw lots of game and were happy. As we were on heavily hunted public land we really didn't expect trophies. In my book...

    Colorado Sight Seeing Trip

My wife and I and another couple are coming out mid-July for a week. We are flying to Denver and making a loop in the NW part of the state. We will finish up at RMNP and yes, we have our permits.

    CWD 3rd season?

What I've read is that a grad student at Colo. St. Univ. and future wildlife biologist named Gene Schoonfeld {sp.?} was doing a study on mule deer and put them in an enclosure with sheep that had scrapie. It is a very similar disease that mutated a little and jumped to the deer. Schoonfeld...

    2021 Tag Quotas

When I saw that there is a 24.7% decrease in buck tags for NW Co., I was worried about drawing for our planned hunt this fall. After scrolling way down, I found that for unit 3/301, 3rd season, there actually is an increase in tags from 980 to 1100, which should help us. However, for the unit 4...

    Quota proposals

There is a big reduction in deer antlered licenses for the NW units 3,4,5,301, etc. from 3842 to 2891, but an increase in the PLO and antlerless tags. This has me worried about drawing a NR tag this year. We have plans made as we were confident drawing with 1 PP. Could be a problem.

Covid have you returning draw tags?

I'm from Pa. and Dem. Gov. Wolf picked states with Rep. governors to put the 14 day quarantine on. There are a couple exceptions, Ca. is one. Definitely political, but as I understand it is only a recommendation, not a requirement.

The end of NW Colorado as we knew it...

Just got back from hunting unit 23, 3rd season. We saw plenty of does and young bucks, but few big ones. I got a very nice 26 inch buck and the other guys killed 2 mediocre 4x4s and a smallish 3x3. Like I said, lots of does. We struck out on elk, saw about 40 cows, all at a distance, and zero...

    They got me!

I'm a NR from Pennsylvania and I've taken a couple bear here and eaten the meat. It's not great, but then I'm not crazy about mule deer either, especially 3rd season ones. One think I'll recommend is soaking the roasts in buttermilk. They're pretty decent that way. Other than that, dress the...

    colorado wolves

    >We already have a huge pack >of wolves in southern Colorado >they are called Amish!!! I'm from Pennsylvania and we have a lot of Amish here. I have nothing against them and they give the area a lot of character, but yeah, they are avid hunters and on their own land, they don't have much...

    colorado wolves

Read that wolf introduction will be a ballot initiative this fall. If it passes and it will, introduction will be mandated. The reason it will pass is that the majority of voters don't have a clue and won't be affected by it one way or another. It seems totally wrong that people with little or...

    HSUS on the attack 3/14

HSUS is a strident anti-hunting organization and anti-hunters love predators and are always trying to increase their numbers. They figure the more prey animals killed by predators, the fewer that are left for hunters, which will eventually erode hunter numbers. This shows they don't have a...

Has Colorado Peaked? All down hill?

3 of us hunted unit 23 SE of Meeker 3rd season this year. The deer hunting was excellent as we all killed 150-160 class bucks and saw many more in that size range and I saw 1 true monster after I filled my tag. The elk hunting was the opposite as we only saw 11 cows and no bulls in a week. We...

    It's still Colorado

I don't know how to post pics, but 3 of us hunted unit 23 3rd season with mixed results. Deer was excellent as we got 3 very nice 150 class bucks and could have shot a dozen more in the same size range. I did see 1 much bigger after I filled my tag. Elk is where we didn't do well, never saw a...
