    Spill the Beans

Ended up going with unit 42 deer, I put in for the 4th season deer tag with a few points since there hasn’t been a 4th season in that unit for at least 10 years. We’ll see.

    30 pp nonres. elk..where now?

You probably want to be looking at units 10 (although it is in the northwest) or 40. I’m sure you will get some other good suggestions.

Taker or No? How wide and what does he score?

Definitely a shooter for me, and he’s just an all around great looking buck. I’d say he’s a solid 180 and has to pushing close to 30” wide.

MOST UNUSUAL CATCH ON A FISHING ROD???

Once during a bluefish tournament in Casco Bay, I was fishing a heavy rod with a heavy steel leader and a seal took my bait. I must have fought it for at least a half hour and almost got it to boat before hook pulled out. I’ll bet that seal was a little more cautious about the next mackerel he...

You hunting Turkey's this year? (Poll)

I’ve shot so many over the years that I’m not really interested for myself. But I really like calling them in for others, especially young hunters, it’s a great way to get them interested in hunting. We have over the counter tags and lots of turkeys here in Maine.

I got an email back in December.

    Harvest Statistics

Thanks for the replies, I realize that they are just estimates but figure that they give a relative indication. It will be interesting to see how much of a dive the northwest units took last fall.

Does anyone know when the deer harvest statistics come out for the 2023 hunting seasons?

    Unit 31/32

Looking for general opinions on these units from anyone who hunted these units in the 3rd or 4th season last year. Feel free to message me through the system. Jody

    Euro before mounting

I actually prefer euro mounts, although I do have both. But I can fit more euros in the man cave.

    24 draw odds

Me too, it’s going to be interesting to see how this affects the point creep for non-residents. I don’t think it will make a significant difference for most units, but some are bound to s a big jump in points required.

    24 draw odds

It will be interesting to see what happens in the drawings this year with the new 75/25 split for NR deer licenses. I am considering putting in for a 4th season tag, which by the old 65/35 split, I would have had one point above what it took to draw the tag in 2023. I’m thinking it is definitely...

Let see those 2023 Colorado bucks...

Another year of tag soup for me, third year in a row. Did see several young bucks, but nothing that tempted me, especially after last year's tough winter. Hopefully 2024 will be the year I find a good one. Congratulation's to all did well in 2023.

    24 draw

My buddy and I have 7 NR deer points, so we’re trying to find a unit that will give us the best bang for our buck, although there’s not much for choices in that point range. Let the research games begin 😁

Shooting sticks ( tripod ) or mounted bypod?

I have a set of the tripod style trigger sticks and love them. They are relatively light and quickly adjustable. They can be a hassle to carry if you move around a lot, so I attached a gun sling to mine for ease of carrying when I’m on the move.

Where’s the 1st Season elk thread excitement?

Got home from my first season elk hunt late Friday night, so I figured it was time for an update. Packed into our drop camp on the Friday before the opener with limited scouting time, so we spent that afternoon trying to glass the tree line area for elk and listening bugles with no luck. Day...

Where’s the 1st Season elk thread excitement?

I’m getting ready to pack into a drop camp in a unit that took me 7 points to draw tomorrow morning. Hopefully they’ll still be bugling. It’s been chilly and snowing all day here in Leadville and the weather for the hunt looks good for the hunt dates. Hopefully I’ll have a good update with...
