And you think Utah non residents are the issue

Yes, but what if he is a hunter or a guide or outfitter? Would it be about hunting then? Just curious really. Definitely sheds a bad image on hunters as he most likely is a hunter even thought this has nothing to do with hunting.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

In the same boat with 23. Just waiting for a better unit and for my kids to grow up. Shouldn't be penalized for that after paying for decades. If they go 50/50 Preference and Bonus most could live with that and would avoid a lawsuit. Not saying who would win such a lawsuit but I am sure it would...

    Red Desert Pronghorn 80”+

79 6/8 + 2 or 3 (normal shrinkage in 60 days according to the most knowledgeable antelope hunter around) = 81 6/8 or 82 6/8 + 1" additional shrinkage for the extra 5 months it sat around somewhere = 82 6/8 or 83 6/8 Just saying, it is definitely possible the OP scored it somewhat close...

    Red Desert Pronghorn 80”+

Thank you and this one was not scored for 7 months! And we don't know how it was cared for either. Heck it might have actually been an 84 incher :)

Is that what the OP did? Go measure some of yours and tell us what they score now?

    Red Desert Pronghorn 80”+

Okay Buzz, don't laugh, show data they don't shrink. Most are significant, 2 to 4 inches on many, especially if you freeze them and loose moisture.

    Red Desert Pronghorn 80”+

Antelope notoriously shrink a lot. I am guessing he was 3 inches bigger when you shot him and at 60 days probably would have made the awards. We're his horns in the freezer much?

Wyoming G and H non resident tags cut again

Sounds like they should sell a 1,000 more non-resident tags in G/H and use the money for some more overpasses.

Congrats. He is a great buck for sure.

    Early snow question

I think this theory is based on October hunts when that is when the season was open. In October, some big bucks will definitely stay high and wait until November to migrate down.
  11. nripepi

    Early snow question

Easier to see the deer with snow and often better overall movement with cooler weather. Can get the bucks to start sniffing around more as well and if enough snow it will push them out of the timber down lower into more visible terrain. Interested to see what others think about reverse migration...

Someone willing to talk about CO

If you would have applied for a tag that started after his birthday he would have got a point if he didn't draw it. Did the same thing last year for a 11 year old.

Wyoming G and H non resident tags cut again

G&H will be the most limited non-resident units in the state this Fall. Maybe they should be?

Taker or No? How wide and what does he score?

    Yep, 33 and 190.
  15. nripepi

Wyoming G and H non resident tags cut again

Agreed, short-term it is not a bad idea to try and save a few bucks especially with a lower than objective buck to doe ratio being reported.

Are you a rock climber? If so, this could be the unit for you for one point!

    Proposed season structure 2025-2029

Many of those deer hunters who spend 10s of points on 4th season tags say the same exact thing about elk hunters 😀 I know I have.

    Preference point

5 people for a month who all were residents? They just messed up and didn't offer it to the next five in line because it didn't take points is my guess and didn't read the rules closely. Could be wrong but I am doubtful 5 turned it down.
  19. nripepi

    Preference point

So they could have spent $350 to hunt a 50K sheep tag and if they didn't get a sheep could apply again the next year for the same tag with the same odds and no retribution? It makes it even crazier they turned down the tag then. It is once in a lifetime if you harvest!!!
  20. nripepi

    Preference point

So? The odds are currently 0.4% and likely would get worse over time. It would take over 100 years to have a 50% chance to draw a tag at 0.4%. Can these 5 people all not do math?
  21. nripepi

    Preference point

I definitely am not in the know so will not call you out on that statement but why the heck would each of the five turn down that tag? There are no points for desert sheep so it is more than once in a lifetime, they will likely never draw the tag in the future, the season was open for a month...

    Preference point

That was illegal the way I read the rules unless there is some loophole on the season already started.
  23. nripepi

    Preference point

That is a separate issue, the issue at hand is a 2nd choice tag that anyone in the world could draw with 0 points. Apples and oranges.
  24. nripepi

    Preference point

That is a separate issue and can be said about many tags that are returned. I doubt this specific situation with one in a party not wanting a 2nd choice tag while others do happens that often to be a big concern and there currently is not a good option to stop it unless you halt all returns or...
  25. nripepi

    Preference point

I don't think what the OP is doing affects point creep as it is a 2nd choice tag if he draws it and returns it or someone draws it and hunts it. It just is what it is. Now for those returning first choice tags, that is a separate discussion.

SF 111 mule deer and whitetail separate hunting licenses, bad for mule deer.

Because of general otc resident tags. If all tags were limited you could easily do this but since they are not it is an awful awful idea.

    Toprut statistics update??

Their a joke! You would think they would have emailed those paying their salaries that they had a whole different tool out there on their website so we could compare it vs. TopRut. It looks decent but I had no idea it even existed and I am an Elite Member. Doesn't look like they updated...

    Toprut statistics update??

It could be that OnX is causing part of the problem? I don't know but I just don't like OnX and their product, way better options out there and they have some serious flaws.

Ground Shrinkage or Gain - Pack Giveaway

Two mule deer here that changed a lot when I walked up on them. One grew 20 inches and one shrunk 20 inches. Guessed them both at close to 180 but didn't have time to evaluate either, it was shoot or pass. Grew: Shrunk:

    Toprut statistics update??

They updated Wyoming and Arizona. I am guessing they are just going down the list of what is due first and will get to Colorado soon. There is enough data on Colorado where they could easily estimate the points required to draw with the change to 75/25 but I doubt they do that.
  37. nripepi

    Harvest Statistics

They estimate from their surveys. The question is what % of surveys do you need to be accurate. Let's say it is 10%,.do they get 10%? I doubt it and is why they should have mandatory reporting. Why would people lie on the mandatory reporting is my question?

    24 draw odds

That is the crux of the issue, it might have value to someone and they will buy it for $800 if they don't use their points but if they have to use their points it no longer has value. It is just a big unknown. Many of the other western states do not use points for 2nd choice tags like Wyoming...
