1.8 Satisfaction rate for Thousand Lakes

I drew a rifle tag for the Thousand Lakes unit last year and spent a good two weeks up there. It's a beautiful area, but I was definitely disappointed in the low deer numbers, and the hunting experience in general.

    Final Muzzleloader Scope Committee Recommendation

I was all set to do exactly that, until they started talking about banning scopes here in NM a couple years ago. Thank God for the ban. I saved thousands $$$ ?.

    Nebraska Muzzeloader Season

Wherever you wind up, I hope the weather cooperates for you. I've done those late m/l hunts on private land in both Nebraska and South Dakota. In my experience the deer are skittish as hell and almost exclusively nocturnal after the rifle hunt and the rut. If it's not bitterly cold and/or...

    Unit 80 diy antelope?

It was really good in the SLV back in those days. I got this buck in Unit 82 in 1997.

    Unit 80 diy antelope?

I've recently heard the same thing about 80 specifically from local folks I know. None of those units are what they were 20 years ago. I drew 81 in 2015 and wound up turning the tag back in. The story I got is that they've issued too many doe landowner tags in the SLV overall.

    Unit 80 diy antelope?

I don't know if Jerry is trolling us or not, but what I do know is that I haven't seen or heard anything positive about the antelope situation in the SLV in a long time. If you wind up drawing it I think you'll have your work cut out for you.

Have you ever seen Barbary in….

Barbary sheep will indeed out-compete deer and BHS for available forage, and are vastly more drought-resistant than either. It's easy enough to see how this might be a problem, given the poor range conditions in NM. It's also possible that sheep movements result in excess erosion, which in...

    OTC ibex

127? JHC! When I hunted them in the mid-90's, there were 1500-1800 animals. There are no OTC ibex hunts. There may have been a few in the West Portillos years ago, but not anymore.

    Rangefinder Ban.....It's time

Right on. The hell with technology. Might as well ban binoculars and rifle scopes, too. Along with the GPS. And atv's.

Interesting article from Go Hunt / point creep

You make some valid points, but "a bunch of companies monetizing the hunting application process" cannot account for a 1/3 increase in applications in only one year (talking about NM here).

    Unit 63 4th season deer

Well, it only took 12 to draw the 4th season, which is a lot less than when I drew it 4 years ago. I don't know if that's a reflection on the quality of the unit or not.

    non res point cost

Having to buy a hunting license in order to apply in the draw isn't any different than a number of other Western states - Nevada, Colorado, and Utah all do the same thing. The tag business and lengthy and convoluted refund process is the difference. CA is not particularly friendly to...

Drew my first NM tag - unit 18 deer

What offends me is your negativism and non-helpful attitude. I am personally well aware of Unit 18 and what to expect. I've hunted it before. As far as anything you've said being untrue, I'll withhold comment.
