I drew a rifle tag for the Thousand Lakes unit last year and spent a good two weeks up there. It's a beautiful area, but I was definitely disappointed in the low deer numbers, and the hunting experience in general.

It was really good in the SLV back in those days. I got this buck in Unit 82 in 1997.

I've recently heard the same thing about 80 specifically from local folks I know. None of those units are what they were 20 years ago. I drew 81 in 2015 and wound up turning the tag back in. The story I got is that they've issued too many doe landowner tags in the SLV overall.

I don't know if Jerry is trolling us or not, but what I do know is that I haven't seen or heard anything positive about the antelope situation in the SLV in a long time. If you wind up drawing it I think you'll have your work cut out for you.

You make some valid points, but "a bunch of companies monetizing the hunting application process" cannot account for a 1/3 increase in applications in only one year (talking about NM here).

Well, it only took 12 to draw the 4th season, which is a lot less than when I drew it 4 years ago. I don't know if that's a reflection on the quality of the unit or not.
