My wife drew 40 this year as well. Oldest buck weve seen is 3.5 years old. Pretty abysmal hunting. Crazy how few deer we've seen overall.

I'm getting sick of this BS. Been putting in for all 4 species the last 11 years and have only drawn a cow elk and doe antelope tag. The buck tag I put in for is 20% odds and have never gotten it. Fish and game hates me.

What's crazy is, in this specific area, we saw 5 bucks with no antlers and 2 bucks packing only 1 side on December 26th.

I appreciate everyone who was willing to share advice! We filled all 3 doe tags within an hour and a half on public land.

Guess everybody must be lying when they fill out their harvest report and say they killed a bull. Or sounds like you guys must have had a poor experience because you didn't get into the pockets of animals that are in there.

"Extreme exaggeration" of a solid .6% in 36. Unit 35 and unit 33 were both over 30% success in 2016 as well. Not saying the tag is worth a controlled hunt application but from what I saw last year deer hunting, seeing a handful of bulls while elk was open made me get wish I had a tag in my pocket.

Crazy to think just a couple years ago success was 40% for both archery and rifle in some spots. If you dont mind me asking what unit were you roaming around in?

The treasure valley is booming right now. I recommend either Melba or Middleton for some space and commuting just a little closer to the Boise area to work and stay busy. Everywhere is growing in this area quick, not sure about other parts of the state. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Hear ya there. Saw 5 bulls this season in 39 during the rifle season. Didnt have the tag but tried to get my brother on his first elk. Unfortunately we couldn't close the deal but there were A LOT of elk this year.

Ive noticed the same thing. Both in 39 as well as other less popular units in central idaho.

Spent a week in central Idaho. Quite a few does, 2 small bucks and 1 decent 4 point. Most of the deer were down lower. Was not impressed with the deer numbers but the elk seem to be thriving. One herd had 3 bulls fired up with a couple hot cows.

Hunted 25 the last 2 years. Hard to find the elk but when you do you're in them. Missed a fired up 5 point last weekend. The trick is to get way way away from the people.

Wow drew spring too!? Ive been putting myself and entire family in the last 3 years on both hunts and have yet to draw anybody. Find draws with water in the bottom and hunt around those.
