    SE Oregon Rifle Deer

I read your original post again and see you spent 19 points as a non-resident. Definitely a tough one to swallow. As an Oregon guy I still talk to people that have this elevated perspective of the Steens and still think it's like what it was 20 years ago. Even 10-12 years ago it was producing a...

    SE Oregon Rifle Deer

Thanks for the update on your hunt! Sadly this sentiment is becoming more and more common for the Steens. Well, most mule deer units in all honesty. It's sad to hear that people waited 7-8 years to draw this tag only to come away disappointed. Nice work on the cat and giving the unit your best...

    Willamette Unit Question - Antlerless

Public lands are super few and far between unless you're floating a river. There's private timber company land that you can hike into. Onx is your best friend. Find land owned by timber companies then go to their website to see if they allow access to hunt. Good luck!

Sled Springs Archery with 7 resident points?

Here's my take and yes I've hunted Sled before. 1.) The hunting has gone way down hill the last 4-5 years. The wolf population has exploded in that area as well. I rifle hunted it (I'm a bowhunter normally) in 2022 and put 10-15 miles a day on my boots and saw 1 cow elk during the 5 day...

    Unit 61 or 62 Antelope?

Brother-In-Law has 4pts. We would average out to 9each. Sounds like we may just combine our points and go have fun on a 7-8pt unit.

    Unit 61 or 62 Antelope?

Great advice from you guys so far! Much appreciated!!! I was wondering about how hard those areas were hit with winter kill. I agree with HornedToad about being able to sneak into some of the top units a little easier points wise. I was surpsrised how much the point creep went backwards in these...

    Unit 61 or 62 Antelope?

Looking at these two units for Type 1 Antelope in 2024. Would love to hear any feedback from anyone who's hunted them in the past. Also how was the winter kill this past year in these units? I've tried calling a couple bios over the last few months and have yet to receive a call back. Feel free...

    Steens deer

"Opportunity based" as in giving away WAY too many tags versus giving a rats azz about the quality of hunting. Then it STILL takes 2-3 years of applications to even draw a remotely mediocre mule deer tag. Whatever the "Plan" is in Oregon, it is worthless.

    Steens deer

There are ZERO early October rifle mule deer hunts in Oregon that are worth waiting 6-8 years to draw! You can draw 0-2 PT units and have just as good of a hunt! Flash back to 2007 when deer and elk populations were even better than they are now. I lived in Utah for 3 years (2007-2010) and it...

    Steens deer

Unfortunately that's the reality in most deer units in Oregon. I spent a week elk hunting over east and saw maybe 10 deer total and the biggest buck was a forky. We were in some amazing looking deer habitat and the deer numbers were non existent. The best deer hunting I've ever seen in Oregon...

    Metolius Late Archery Tag

It's still a good hunt and borderline great at times. Very weather dependent at times also. Cover lots of ground via boots, truck, etc and you'll see lots of bucks. Don't discount the smaller chunks of BLM here and there also.

Haha! I get a 2nd hand high every time I go in there between the fumes and skull plate dust from the grinder! He's a great dude and does some damn fine work so I'm 99% sure it was probably my fault! No worries either way as I'm stoked with the mount!

There was a miscommunication with the taxidermist. I honestly thought I was getting a darker barnwood look. I may try to stain it a darker color or build a barnwood one at some point. Thanks for the input!
