Everyone always seems to want to know what the best hunt in CA is. Usually this conversation leads to some sort of an exchange involving the preference point dependent PREMIUM (X, G, & M) zones...and then someone predictably adding the cliché, "Zone (fill in the blank) isn't what it used to...

There’s one less good one on the mountain now. Even though it was short-lived, today I had a really fun time . Saw over 100 deer and passed on 12 decent bucks before choosing to take this one. Pretty tired… Loooong hike out. More of the story later…… 28 1/8” 7x5

After 13 days spent on the mountain this year in search of a mature, “legal to take” ram we only managed to located three. One was found preseason north of White Mountain, and the other two were south of the mountain near Barcroft station. One to the south was actually taken by another hunter...

Wilderness back pack hunt in the Schell's....saw lots of deer but hard to find good mature bucks. No shortage of big bulls up there though!
