Might want to stay in the more open areas such as the Uvas or other hill areas towards Kingston and points south. I have seen bucks on the side of the roads in the forest but they don't tend to stick around long. Well, i do remember one small fork that did but i was elk hunting. Beware of the...
Pretty exciting morning in the casa:
My daughter struck OIL as in Bighorn Sheep in the Pecos Wilderness!!! She also drew 21A 2nd rifle elk.
I drew archery pronghorn in 59, archery deer in 17 and rifle javelina.
I am still in shock and disbelief.
Going to be a busy season!!!
Catron County has been green and yellow on the radar the last two days. Most of the county looks to be getting rain as I write this (9pm). The forecast for the next week is looking good, hopefully it keeps raining until the hunts start.
What a contrast with precipitation versus last year! Good...
Might not be too bad because of those 125 hunters, 75 will be road hunting between Uncle Bill's in Reserve and Lower SF Plaza, 18 will want to be dropped off at Uncle Bill's, 16 won't leave camp/hotel, 11 won't show up or leave after one day and 5 will actually hunt. That's 1 square mile per hunter.
Everything on one card (Chase SW) was refunded yesterday after a few days showing as pending. The hunts I applied on another card (Barclay's- AA) nothing as of 5 minutes ago.
Actually, according to the originally published release date of 4/26, they haven't missed the deadline. Some people are just acting like spoiled kids right now given the early release in the past.
Congrats to your daughter and you. Enjoy the youth hunts because they are 18 before you know it. I miss the days when I could take my daughter on these hunts.
I was able to take this buck at 278 after passing up a smaller buck at 198 about an hour earlier. Smaller buck was very curious and would run away then come back for over 5 minutes and I decided to let him walk. Stalked this buck on my hands and knees until I decided I couldn't get closer...
With the pronghorn hunts behind us (mostly) and archery deer and elk starting today I figured we should have a meatpole post. I know some have already posted their success but would be nice to have a dedicated kill page.
Good luck and post 'em up!!!
Was out in 16A last weekend. To say it's wet is an understatement. That place is soaked beyond saturation. Every bottom has water running through it and the South Fork of Negrito looked like a major river (pic posted).
@BUGLEnmIN, regarding horseback, we went hiking and every step we took our...

And the NWS has gauges everywhere? You assume things were bought at Walmart? Is that where you buy your hunting gear? Is that also safe to assume? If you're not at every spot in every state it is most likely best to stay quiet...
Was down in the southwest part of the state last weekend (primarily 26) and everything was green, Green, GREEN!!! Drove home through Silver, Reserve then Quemado to Grants. Grass everywhere and the animals we saw looked really good. Lots of calves with the cows. Those of you with tags in 12, 15...
I usually see deer on 380 from Bingham east to the Valley of Fires. Of course they are on the side of the road. Might want to try the hills south of Bingham to the Missile Range boundary. Personally, I have never hunted the area. I believe the record archery bull elk came from 18 about 10 years...
