I haven't drawn in New Mexico since 2019 when I drew a pronghorn tag and a deer tag. Filled both tags with great animals. I used to at least draw my third choice deer tag every year. I am looking forward to becoming a resident again in my home state. All I need to do is finish up my career...

EPLUS is the reason for low draw odds...40-50% of available tags go to land owners, depending on the unit.

I put in for points only this year. I hope to retire next winter, and then plan on spending points in 2025.

I don't know about the Arizona side, but the New Mexico side is good for javelina and quail. I have seen Gambles, Scaled, and Mearn's down there, and plenty of javelinas.

I agree with you, and I am also bald. I shoot a 6.5-284 Norma as well. My brother shoots a 6.5PRC, my other brother shoots a 6.5x55 Swede, and my niece shoots a 6.5 Creedmor. I also shoot a 264 Win Mag.

You count three teeth back from the front, look at the fourth molar...that will get you the age from 3-7 years old...then look at the last tooth and that will narrow it down from 2-4, then beyond that you look at the height of the molars above the gumline, and it will get you 7+...after seven it...

You raise a very good point here. I always looked at that group as a bunch of wealthy hunters and different than conservation groups. That is just my opinion. I will do some research now to see if my opinion is way off or not.

Hunting a lot of that country out of Silver City is very doable. Are you going to be able to scout?

There is a guy in Alpine that sets up a refrigerated semi-trailer for the hunts. I don't know the name of the business, but he also runs the bait shop at Luna Lake. There is a taxidermist in Silver I can recommend...Royal Jon's Taxidermy.

I hunted deer in Utah once with a general season NR tag...I swore I would never go back. The crap I saw folks do on that hunt was unbelievable. Now I see so many license plates here from UT.
