Non Res tags, how does it all work ???

Not very well by all accounts. I gave up on the res non-res tags before this madness cropped up.

Anyone willing to chat with a NR about OTC deer units?

How bad does it have to get

I reckon I’ll hang my tag on ranchers cattle since their **** stink cows ate up all the winter range feed on public land. Watch him flip his lid now.

    Deer Population Unit 31

It’s fukkin gross. Mile after mile of pristine kick ass game country. No trespassing don’t even ask Hit the public, there’s their shitty cattle on overgrazed range. It s frankly bullshit I’m not gonna bite my tongue about it.

Bud I’ve been on the receiving end. Trust me I know how it works as hard as that may be for you to believe. Make those tags non transferable. Then all the shenanigans come to an end.

Fact. Trespass fee. Oh by the way here’s your tag that’ll be $7,000. I’m not speaking from a place of ignorance.

    Deer Population Unit 31

I’m cool with that so long as the public can quit feeding private livestock on public lands. I’m certain many others feel the same.

    Deer Population Unit 31

Worth at least a quick once over. It’s not the gravy train many believe it to be but it is a nice perk. My opinion is these tags should not be transferable as they were never intended to be a financial windfall...

    Deer Population Unit 31

The more land they own, the higher their chance to draw. I understand it’s not a gimmee and odds vary by region/species, etc, but there are absolutely land owners that receive tags every year.

    Idaho Unit 39

True but I can speak to 39,43 etc. that’s where I be spent most my general seasons. These days 39 is just…gross.

    New to Idaho unit 39

Lol in 2010 I’d of argued till I was blue in the face there’d always be good bucks in 39 for those willing to get hardcore. I think I was wrong.

It’s time for a real discussion

I’ve felt it’s not a bad deal if the second tag is used for whitetail. Agree killing two mule deer is very questionable.

It’s time for a real discussion

Been on this site for years this debate has been had a hundred times. Give residents back the opportunity they’ve had and they’ll pay more. Keep whittling away opportunity and they’ll play golf. The older ones know what I mean. The younger ones will fight over table scraps because they don’t...

    anybody here get one?

The intention was to give landowners a more reasonable shot at tags others had a lesser chance at. Not to give them a financial windfall.

    Unit 18 Mule Deer quality

River is runnable in low flows. More forgiving than the salmon for instance. Granite itself will always present a considerable obstacle. Might be passable might not. If I were getting a boat involved it’d be from the top down. Meet me at X at a specific time. Logistics an issue. Also pick the...

    Unit 18 Mule Deer quality

Jet boats seem like a good idea but you’re starting at the lowest possible point in country that’s beyond rugged and steep. I own one I run that river a lot. I don’t think I’d approach the hunt that way.

    Unit 44 deer question

Those bucks have been known to cross the highway early with weather. I’d scout early and hunt early. Then hunt late as plan B lol.

    Driving to Anchorage from Boise

Crossed once before. Canuck border agents were assholes. Dug damn near all our gear out of the car. Also Canada is a socialist shithole. Canucks I’ve encountered on various vacations abroad were arrogant douchebags. I’d avoid if at all possible.

    Unit 46 Idaho Elk

‘ol Gemstatejake drew the December bull this year. I guarantee any info will be reciprocated big time. Also will report all I see and do. Not completely unfamiliar with the unit as I hunted sage grouse down there on occasion many moons ago. Many scouting trips ahead and December in its entirety...

Hows the snow been in the panhandle of idaho

This winter will be disastrous to mule deer across the state. IDFG should start altering seasons and tag numbers to reflect that but they won’t.

    Fingers Crossed for the Deer

We were in full blown catastrophic drought till a miracle wet spring last year. By the time that weather showed up winter was essentially over. Pattern has been similar minus the unusually wet spring the past few years. Can’t speak to North Idaho I guess. Snow pack in southern Idaho was woeful.
  38. GSJ

    Fingers Crossed for the Deer

The pattern for the past few winters has been precip early then dry as a bone by late winter. Hope we follow the same trend this year or it could get ugly. Deer can generally do fine with snow and frigid temps so long as it’s early on. February is a crucial month.
