Interesting new bill requiring Firearms insurance

I don't think CPW officers would ask. I doubt that they would want to open that can of worms. I sure hope for the sake of Colorado resident firearm owners that this dictatorial crap doesn't pass.

    Spill the Beans

49 second rifle elk for me. I'm burning more NR points than required (14), but this year was the year to use my points due to my available vacation time. I was 1 to 2 points behind better hunts that I would never reach with point creep. I usually sleep in the back of my truck, but due to the...

    What Trips Your Trigger?

Mass and height do it for me. I'd rather have a buck with good mass and height with fewer points than a higher scoring buck with more points but lacking the overall mass and height.

What rifle Calibers have you used?

I've seen some obscure cartridges (and calibers) 😀 listed. Very cool! The .32 Winchester Special was mentioned at least 5 times by my account. I have a 1949 Marlin .32 Special that I hunted with for the first time this year. No shot opportunities this year, but I hope to remedy that next year...

You hunting Turkey's this year? (Poll)

I'll be hunting my home state of Missouri as usual. Turkey numbers used to be phenomenal in the area I hunt, but have plummeted the last 7 or 8 years. It is a 2 gobbler limit, which I filled almost every year for close to 20 years, but I've been happy with one for the last several years.

So whats everyone going to do in utah 1x muzzleloader rule??

I'll put my Simmons 1x back on that I used on a Utah muzzleloader hunt in the early 2000's. I can't see a front sight clearly.

    Straight vs angled spotter

She might have had better luck with angled ones in both situations.😀 On a serious note, I prefer an angled spotting scope for general usage, but a straight scope would be much more user friendly for a window mount.

    What would you do ???

I would leave the choice of weapon up to her. It will be her hunt that she has waited a long time for and she needs to go into it feeling confidence in her ability to make a shot. Best of luck to you both!

    Lowering Standards

On nearly all of my mule deer hunts, I don't get to put boots on the ground other than a few days prior to the hunt due to travel distance (1,000+ miles) and available vacation time. Almost all of the hunts are general hunts or low preference point hunts. I've been fortunate enough to kill a...

I have an 8mm Rem Mag. The cartridge never took off popularity-wise, but it flat out hammers, elk, bear, deer, and coyotes.

    Wasatch LE Early Elk Hunt

I'm genuinely sorry for the lack of rut activity and sightings that all you guys with the archery, early rifle, and muzzleloader tags experienced. In most cases, many years of points were burned. That's a hard pill to swallow. Tags aren't guaranteed to be punched, but I can imagine the...

    Final Muzzleloader Scope Committee Recommendation

The last time I muzzleloader hunted Utah, a 1x scope was all that was allowed. I still have it, though I now have a fixed 4x scope on my muzzleloader. I personally would have no problem going back to a 1x scope. My only concern with states requiring open sights only is if they are extremely...

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE WORLD QUIT TURNING???

I was at home. I turned on the TV and the first tower had already been hit. At the time, they thought it was an accident. I saw the second plane hit live as it happened. Then the pentagon, and then flight 93 (Let's Roll Todd Beamer!). I was glued to the TV the rest of the day as it became clear...

Binoculars with or without a rangefinder?

Like some others have mentioned, I use RF binoculars always for rifle hunting (and muzzleloader hunting), but use separate binos and rangefinder for bow hunting. My RF bino is a Bushnell Fusion 1600 10x, and it has pretty good optical quality. For bowhunting, I use a Swarovski 8x30 and slope...

Plateau Fishlake. Not a trophy hunt for sure, but I chased deer around there 20 years ago with my bow and I'm looking forward to seeing that country again.

    Emails are out!

No dice on the NR OIL or LE tags as expected, but drew a general season muzzleloader deer tag. ?
  34. sambo3006

Have you ever drawn a random tag?

I drew a Colorado deer tag about 10 years ago with about 40% odds in my point pool. I drew a Utah LE elk tag in 2016 that was 66% odds in my point pool (1 point below the guaranteed tags in both cases). Other than that, no random tags in 8 different states. I have also failed to draw a deer tag...

    Anyone identify this muzzleloader bullet?

Thanks diablo! That is what I had in mind.(y) What kind of sub-base? Obviously it is something that would prevent blow by gas from upsetting the bullet in the QLA portion of the muzzle.

    Anyone identify this muzzleloader bullet?

FYI, if your barrel has a counter bored muzzle for ease of loading it may not shoot these or other full non saboted bullets well. I tried these in my Encore, which groups and inch or better at 100 with Barnes saboted bullets. It shot these Furys into about an 8 inch pattern. I do intend to try...

Have you ever shot an animal that had a previous wound?

About 10 years ago I was hunting in Wyoming on a leftover antelope buck tag. Not a lot of accessible public land on the unit, and I was having a hard time locating a buck on public. On the third day I spotted a buck walking along broadside at about 250 yards. A quick look through the binos...

NR burned through Colorado PP's in 2022?

I had a great time. I'd never hunted the unit before. I scouted 2 days and got him on the afternoon of the opener. I had also found a 24" wide 5x4 that didn't have as much mass. I didn't turn him up opening morning, and with the other hunter pressure I wasn't going to hunt exclusively for him...
