Check out some of the outfitters that do the South Fork of the Flathead in the Bob Marshall, everything you described and more. We took horses in for two days and floated out for five. Incredible trip.

From the initial research I have done, it appears that public access if very limited in this unit. For those that have hunted or are familiar with the area is it possible to have a successful DIY hunt? I found a few of the ranches that allow access but I have heard that they are tough to reserve...

Thanks for the response. I certainly don't measure the success of a hunt on whether a took an animal (although its really nice when you do!). Did you hunt archery? First or second season? Did you find the unit to be overly crowded or difficult to access?

Would you rather hunt 1st or 2nd archery for elk? Obvioulsy rut would be better later in the season, but 1st season may offer better opportunity for getting closer to a big bull. Dreaming....

They use the average number of preference points and will also consider any fraction from the calculation in the priority. So you in your example you would both have .5 points.

Check out 1 Shot Gear on Santa Fe. They carry full selection of Stone Glacier packs, used to carry Kifaru as well but I beleive they phased them out. Good selection of hunting related gear as well. They are good to work with and will beat or at least match prices you find anywhere else.

Just so we know, please post a picture of what someone should look like that does hunt. Also not trying to be mean or disrespectful but how does this relate to someones ability ability to do anything other than be a model?
