    Mummy bag or Rectangle?

If you are looking for more room to toss and turn backpacking, try a quilt. I have an El Coyote but lots of good options out there. For at the truck a big rectangle bag is great.

    Northern ut turkey

Is this the last 30 min of light or after it gets dark? I heard one the other day about 6:30 and couldn't see if bird or a human but not a place I expected turkeys to be.

The first couple RMGA counts were in the 350 range. Would be great if the did another. I probably have data from the original counts if helpful.

    northern Rac

I'm not sure what the solution is if there even is one but I wish there was some urgency to figure out what caused the massive decline in willard goats. 350+ to 18 and the response is drought and maybe there are more hiding in the cliffs?

    utah elk numbers?

All of the regional "committees" that set the unit population objectives have Ag interests well represented. This is done every 5 years unless there are circumstances that require more immediate action. Draw your own conclusions on who has most say on population objectives.

    Kid Stock for Ruger 10/22

Even with a shorter stock the weight of it is still challenging. At least it was/is for mine. Get a cricket or Savage has something too. Shoot shorts or sub sonic stuff. Great way to introduce them to shooting.

    Best back country tent

4 people and a stove will take up every inch of an 8man tipi. In some areas it is challenging to find a big enough flat spot for these large tents. If you'd use it for 2 man hunts at times two tents may serve better? Also being able to stand up is way nice. I've used the seek outside 8man...

I hadn't thought of them bumping against the shell. 80lbs would sure change a deer hunt!

I'm intrigued. Can they be transported in a 5.5' bed with a shell? Is two possible or always 3? Thanks

    Cougar Harvest Numbers??

With the legislative rule that there is no longer a reason for the DWR to track those numbers. Would still be interesting to see though.

MDF Guzzler Needs Fixin—Put up or shut up!

What about some rebar through the holes in post? I know of one in the desert that had the posts sink and have been brainstorming ideas. It's worse than this one.

MDF Guzzler Needs Fixin—Put up or shut up!

You need to call the Springville dwr office and talk to the habitat section manager. They can help coordinate repairs.

    Helping Our Deer Numbers

I haven't seen recent numbers but have heard ~20K for annual roadkill totals. Adding in the majority are pregnant does. Also USU had a grad student study how many died out of the median. Dont know those numbers but it was significant. hossblur is right. Keeping conservatively 30K deer a year vs...

    Helping Our Deer Numbers

Yes, over time desirable vegetation can replace cheatgrass unless a new disturbance resets the clock. Not necessarily the later germination but same result. Cheatgrass is not native and is not spread over the entire western landscape, just most of it. It has small seeds that can be...

    Helping Our Deer Numbers

It's already there. Hard to find any BLM ground without at least some. If the site is already occupied by native vegetation or a cultivated grass (crested wheatgrass) then there is limited expression of the cheatgrass. Once there is a disturbance like fire the existing seeds of cheatgrass will...

    Helping Our Deer Numbers

Don't neglect the summer range. Deer thrive in early successional habitat. In the absence of logging, pre 1930s grazing practices and with modern fire suppression the deer aren't as effective in gaining weight. Fat deer survive winter better even if the winter range is suboptimal. Large scale...

    Who's the Boogeymen??

I can't say true or false to this but from an outsider it certainly appears that the DWR is afraid of having policies set via legislative action in response to them "not doing enough "

Uintas Mountain Goat Hunting Strategy Question.

That's cool on the goats. Should be a huge help. Honestly can probably walk up to a mtn goat with them. But probably better safe than sorry when it comes to potential of disease transmission. Or see if you can get yours tested beforehand. Not sure of that process but I bet if you asked Utah...

Uintas Mountain Goat Hunting Strategy Question.

Good to see you are in the know on nanny harvest. Unless you put THE billy to bed I would still camp lower. It gives you better field of view to glass and is more comfortable. If you find one in morning it's usually not going to walk out of your life. It may be in a spot you don't shoot because...

Uintas Mountain Goat Hunting Strategy Question.

I have helped up there but still a long ways from my own tag. If you are wanting to find the biggest Billy you need to be mobile. That means either traversing across the tops of drainages above treeline or going all the way out and back up the next one. I prefer to stay high. If you would be...

    Anyone know Aram Von Benedikt?

As fast as you can cut through the leather strap. DWR uses those razor blade cutting pliers. Like what a plumber uses to cut poly pipe. Or there are two nuts that can be undone. Take a few minutes with a Leatherman. Much less with appropriately sized driver.
