I actually spoke to the biologist when she started the original doe hunts up there with 2000 tags. (she might have retired last year?). She specifically told me she was actually trying to reduce the herd population overall and with a particular goal to increase the buck to doe ratio...

The weakfish backs are not helping. Prime example of a buck having that WOW factor ( which is most important IMO) but will not score as well as you might think. In short… that’s a BIG buck…regardless of what it might score!

Do a search for the X2 and M9 past hunts...then compare the posted photos and trophy quality. Even the bucks taken during the late M9 hunt (basically a 20 point draw) averaged a mere shadow of what used to come out of this zone. It truly amazes me at what Folks call a "Dandy" and "Huge"...

The defense requested a continuence in order to have time to determine if they might file a "motion to arrest judgment" and or file a "motion for a new trial." The new date is March 16th. On another note...There also appears to be charges pending in Arizona as well.

Don’t forget the shooter, Alan Hamberlin, has a checkbook that is MORE than capable of purchasing gov tags, landowner tags… etc. So he indeed does have the ability to give himself an edge and hunt in areas in which the giants do live.

The charges (prosecution) indicated the buck was tracked and shot in Utah. The defense was that it was shot in AZ and then ran into Utah. The jury seems to have felt the evidence did not support the defenses version.

My definition of a "hunter" may be quite different than yours. As such, I believe to use the words “chase,” "hunter," "hunted" or "hunting"....in describing the way this animal was harvested would be, again by definition, incorrect.
