Manti Archery Elk - What's everyone seeing??

My buddy got it done on the last day, in the last hour of the hunt. He has appropriately called his bull "bottom of the ninth."

How big is this bull? Taker?

I'd say he scores around 300"-310.

Manti Archery Elk - What's everyone seeing??

The bulls that we had on water stopped hitting the watering holes that we are watching about 4 days before the hunt started. That's good to hear that they are hitting your cameras during daylight. The bulls that we were keeping tabs on were only hitting at night 10 pm to 3 am. I know it...

Manti Archery Elk - What's everyone seeing??

I am helping a friend with his limited archery elk hunt this year on the Manti. So far we have hunted in the Fairview canyon area and have got in to a few groups of cows but we have yet to find any bulls. It seems like the bulls are still nocturnal. What is everyone seeing out there? Is...

Wilde Arrow Archery and Hoyt Event this Weekend

There really hasn't been much improvement over the last decade in bows. The bow I shot a decade ago would spit out the arrows at about the same speed as today's bows and would shoot just as accurately. However, it's always fun to have shiny new toys.

    Disgusted

Wow!! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Firewood doesn't reserve anything. It sounds like I would have been running my generator all night long and pissing in his gas tank. There are still a lot of great hunters out there, unfortunately we all run into a few that should find...

    San Juan Archery Elk

Should be a killer year for antler growth. I'm getting excited!! I'm probably checking for CC hits ten times a day.

    San Juan Archery Elk

I went and looked at the video...that bull is a beast and it was awesome to see him on the hoof. Way to try and keep it on the down low. I agree with c3...a better pic is needed of that beast.

    San Juan Archery Elk

The extra work was worth it for that bull. I'm sure the memories of how bad the pack out was have faded by now. I hope I get to send an arrow through a bull of that caliber come August-September.

    San Juan Archery Elk

Very cool bull, thanks for sharing the picture!! Looks like you got him in some steep country. I like the lines you have up to keep him from sliding. I'm glad those spike hunters didn't ruin your hunt :).

    San Juan Archery Elk

Thanks Pete!! It looks like you had a great time down there and your video made me wish that August/September were around the corner. Its going to be a long five months.

    San Juan Archery Elk

Thanks for linking the video, it was fun to watch. I honestly don't have much experience in the unit but I do have a lot of elk hunting time under my belt. I'm not too concerned with the spike hunters as they can't hunt the last week when the hunt should be the best. In my experience the...

    San Juan Archery Elk

I'm pretty certain I'm going to draw my San Juan elk tag this year. Have any of you hunted it during the archery season in the past? Any pointers you could pass along? Feel free to pm me if you'd like. Thanks

Question about the 50 cal 250gr hornady sst bullet

Go with the 250 gr TC/Shockwave bonded core. Same exact shape as the hornady...should basically shoot the same out of your gun but it will hold up better, penetrate further than the hornady. It's getting late in the year to work up a load for the 300.

    Vernon Muzzleloader Help

I'm looking for a good solid mature buck. As far as stats go I'm looking for a 170"+ deer with an outside spread of 27"+. To me that is the baseline for a solid mature deer. I'm hoping to dig something up in this category.

    Vernon Muzzleloader Help

I've been scouting the Vernon unit in preparation for the muzzleloader hunt and I haven't found any decent bucks. I thought I'd reach out to my Monster Muley family for some help. Do any of you have experience with, or advise on the unit, that you wouldn't mind passing on. Thanks for your help.

    LE Wasatch bull

Way to stick with it until you found the bull. You are definitely in the minority for hanging in there that long. Nice looking bull and cool pic of the mud bath.

    My Monroe Bull

For the photo critics...the stuff hanging out the left quarter is the exit hole (complete pass through). The bull was quartering towards me, walking up hill. The shot took out his lungs, liver, and a little gut going out the back end. A perfectly ethical, lethal shot.

    Muzzle loader bull

Yeah, orange looks weird around a nice bull. Better to take it off.

    My Monroe Bull

He crashed into the thick cover after the shot. I would never take a shot on an animal in cover like that. The fun part was the fact that it started raining 20 minutes after the shot and I didn't have a blood trail and had to spend over 4 hours climbing through that crap to finally find him...
