    Arizona bound

My wife and I will be in Benson in a couple weeks. Can anyone tell me any unadvertised spots where we may have a chance to view interesting wildlife. We'd really like to see a desert ram, but I am not sure if there are any in that area. Looking on the map I guess this area could include the land...

    Bighorns for tourists..thanks

We succeeded in seeing some bighorns pretty close up. We spent a couple hours looking around either side of 70 in Georgetown. Finally came upon four of them feeding near a dirt road parallel to and upslope of the west bound side. A real treat for both my wife and I. Thanks very much to all of...

    Bighorns for tourists

My wife and I will be traveling in SW Colorado and NW New Mexico in early April. I no longer apply and will never be hunting Bighorn Sheep, but would love to see one. Is there any place this time of year where we might see a ram? Near road, or by hiking. Thanks very much

    garmin 450 gps question

I'm looking at getting a Garmin 450 or 450t. My question is: With a pair of gloves on in colder weather, will I be able to operate the touch functions, particularly the function of using the thumb & forefinger to zoom in or out. Will keeping the gloves on hinder this process? Thanks alot. Guy

report on Moultrie I-40 trail cam

1st time user of a trailcam here. I put the Moultrie I-40 out on May 11th watching a spot I figured there'd be a moose. I checked it yesterday for the first time. Had images of a cow moose for the first few days according to the date/time stamp. Then one of her right close, nose on camera I...

tips for a 1st time trail cam user, please

I just ordered a Cuddeback Expert. I want to set it up for checking out moose. Late Spring and Summer there will be long periods of time, like a month or two, between my checking it. Any tips regarding placement, timing between shots, size and range of viewing area, etc. would be greatly...

    elk video accuracy

I recently got cable TV and have watched 7 or 8 of the hunting shows that show elk hunts. In every case seemed to me that these bulls were wandering around in what I call pretty open areas. Even the woods looked pretty open. I've never been elk hunting before, or hunted out of my home state for...

    CFNAWS??

My recent copy of "Wild Sheep" is full of reports making reference to "CFNAWS". I assume it's FNAWS' new version of "grand slam". What's the "C" stand for? Thanks

    gps computer hook up?

Any of you guys had trouble connecting a Garmin Etrex Summit or Vista to your computer? The wire that Garmin provides has a "serial" cord that requires use of a USB to Serial adaptor cord. My computer went haywire when I tried to install that cord. My local guru tells me that serial cords have...

    sabot use question

For years I've fired conicals and rb's, and used real BP, and maintained my bores (.50 cal) with bore butter. Been very happy with all aspects of this with regard to accuracy, dependability, ease of cleaning, and ease of reloading. Now about a year ago I purchased a .45 cal CVA Kodiak. I've been...

    black powder/pyro pellet equivalency question

I've tried lots of different substitutes over the years, but a long time ago settled in with Goex FFG. Now my .45 caliber CVA Kodiak, which I got about a year ago, calls for UP TO 150 grains of pellets(3), but only 120 grains maximum if I load with the real thing. I realize the "point of...

    gps on airlines??

Any of you guys have any experience travelling on commercial airlines w/ a handheld gps. Do I risk confiscation by attempting to check it through the gate with rest of my carry on stuff? Will it be stolen if checked through with checked baggage? Should I leave it home? Thank you, Guy

.58 cal. RB/moose Update (no photo)

We saw 3 to 5 bulls a day. Hunter passed a broadside on several, including one 47 or 48 inches. Yesterday (last day of season, and 6th day of hunting) he whacked a 56 incher called in to 30 yards. Round ball quartered into front right shoulder, severed arteries above heart. Bull moved a few...

    .58 cal RB / moose?

I've got a hunter this year who's hunting moose with a Hawken style percussion rifle, .58 cal, round ball, BP, but I don't know how many grains. Any 1st hand experience out there with such a combination on a bull? Range will likely be 75 yards or less. Thanks, Guy

    joint juice...no kidding!

They must market this stuff to the Woodstock Generation! Anyway, the thread on knee surgery made me think of this. For twenty years my knees would be in enough pain to keep me from sleeping. I don't know what the trouble was specifically, but I started drinking "Joint Juice" (liquid glucosamine)...

    new member/ maine moose draw

Hi, I've posted a few times, but would like to say how much I enjoy the info on sheep and moose on this forum. I know our Maine bulls don't fit in the western category, but from my dealings with sheep hunters over the years, I'm guessing that there are a few of you out there who try for a Maine...
