With Colorado Shiras you should think bull elk with a big old head. You can quarter, and even debone, and they are very manageable.

There are elk everywhere in the unit, and the entire unit is beautiful. There are also enough folks on here to offer up help that you don't need to hire a guide if you didn't want to. Feel free to PM me and I will offer up some ideas to you.

I shot a very similar bull to the subject bull of this thread last year. People kept commenting it might be a 300" inch bull. It measured over 330". Tine length is critical to score. Mass barely matters, and spread also isn't a big deal.

How long is your drive to 61? Can you do 2 weekends? It should be a high success rate hunt. But, with limited time you need to consider how far you go in and have to pack out. It is easy to stay close to a road and find elk. Do like El Gringo said!

When you are talking 315 vs 335 there really isn't that much difference between the two. Most people would have to measure to tell the difference. 335 wouldn't surprise me, either would 310. My guess is that it measures at least 320, but I agree with you and others that the frame is more similar...
