Report Finds That New Mexico’s Elk Licensing System Favors Wealthy Landowners and Out-of-Staters Over Residents

Do you know why the Adobe went UW? There's not enough elk on the ranch to consistently hunt the # of tags they had been hunting. The tags were worth more to outfitter and ranch to go UW. Shows how low the elk #'s are in 16C compared to 10 years ago.

Arizona leading the way, auction tags to be history

It absolutely does. Selling state owned wildlife to the highest private bidder is exactly why the north American model was evented, to keep it from becoming "all the Kings deer" like it is in Europe. NAM is really just a buzz phrase as none of the wildlife agencies really follow it, they just...

    Age this Bull

He doesn’t look 11. Who aged him? Judg g just by looks if he were a nm bull I would call him 5 ish but no way to tell BT body size. Just like some people are bigger bodied than others regardless of age so are elk

    Riding saddles

Lots of good saddles out there and depends on what riding you’re going to do. I will assume hunting and mountain riding since this is hunting forum. I would Avoid roping type saddles with low cantles. Look for straight back 4-5 in. Association style trees are a happy medium. Look at...

The account should be under your name and CIN#. They will reset the password for you, and you should be good to go. they have been easy to deal with. Hint if you call one of the branch offices you usually get better help than the call center.

MIL VS. MOA FOR HUNTING? PRO'S? CONS?

Mils is easier and faster to use since all metrics in 10’s. But with today’s digital systems and range finders with built in drops it kind negates the advantage on being able to do the math quickly in your head. If you were starting from scratch and buying scopes it would be wise to go with...

Report Finds That New Mexico’s Elk Licensing System Favors Wealthy Landowners and Out-of-Staters Over Residents

This is/or just like NM Wildlife Federation. They are mad because someone else gets something they don't, not only that, but they want it for free too. Typical democrat/woke views. Anyone can buy a NM LO elk authorization; it doesn't favor nonresidents; it only favors those that are willing to...

Swarovski OptikBTX 35x95 Spotting Scope with Eyepiece

They are a game changer IMO. If you glass a lot a long distance, they are awesome. You can glass all day with little eye strain. they take a little bit to get used to. They still have same problem as any spotter with heat waves and they don't replace 12-15X bino's. They are more a specialty...

    Cougar Zone B CLOSED!

It’s cuz the game department is run by the same democrat liberals running this state. They don’t give a chit about the hunters, all they care is to appease there liberal Federation and environmental groups.

    Dallas Safari Club New Mexico

Never researched them but like safari club I think they do a lot for hunting in the bigger national arena. I don’t know them to do anything in NM political. They first came around this state when NM game and fish needed an organization to broker their gov type tags. Is there even a local...

    Antler growth 2023

Above average, lots of big bulls killed where everyone was saying there was over harvest on mature bulls. Drought was biggest reason. Truth is in NM elk antler growth is driven by winter- spring moisture. We had the best last winter spring that I’ve seen in a long time.

Let’s keep the E Plus program

Yeah if we put all the private lands we’re put into the draw our public land elk hunting would be like Colorado. Quality would be gone and you would be fighting over rag horns cuz private isn’t going to open their gates to let you in without out $. Plus with our depredation laws in this state...

Let’s keep the E Plus program

No doubt E plus has turned into an economic monster, that’s why it’s here to stay. May get tweaked but don’t see it leaving. E plus is the best employer in Catron county and other small counties that don’t have any economic drives. Residents have the same opportunity to buy LO tags as non...

Let’s keep the E Plus program

Everyone complains about E plus but when you look at the shape of our elk herds seems like the program works. Plenty of elk to hunt, access through lands that you wouldn’t normally have and locals get to make some money from the habitat they provide for elk. It’s a win win. It’s not perfect...

They're lying to us about the wolves!

So when they say 200-300 they ( the feds) are talking about documented wolves, the ones with collars. No telling how many un collared are running around. Dam sure more than they used to be and they are fixing to explode, they will be everywhere unless the good people do what need to be done

    Absolutely Comical

Dont know of many roads Zane closed that weren’t closed before. He definitely tries and is a pain in the ass. But as to the first stats with tags and harvest, there is twice the elk on private than the public so go figure more are killed on private. I will give Zane credit he improved his...

    hunters aren’t really necessary

Whoa you are whacked. If it wasn’t for cattle you wouldn’t have half of the water developments in NM that support wildlife. A lot Hunters aren’t the conservationists of yesterday but many are. Once the cattle are run off of public land the hunters will be next, so careful why you wish for.

    hunters aren’t really necessary

The liberals have already taking over the commission. And more troubling is the game and fish took 7 million from general fund this year which means they got their hooks in that department. Bad things to come for hunters if it continues on this trend. If the Rawa bill ever passes the...

    Lack of Monsoon Season

Antler growth should be better this year than the past few. Winter and spring moisture is what drives antler growth. We had a good spring in our southern mountains and held green grass through mid-July. Some places are burning up the grass now but still good grass in places, I'm expecting...

    Oryx population

Oryx off range has increase over the last 5ish years. With more tags issued out I think it will start to decrease over the next 5 yrs. Harvest has been averaging around 50% the last few years so there is still plenty out there off range.

    Fort Bayard Special Management Area

It’s descent depending on what hunt you drew, early is better than later. open country on south end but thick on the north end. If your kid is able to walk and get away from roads you should do alright. It isn’t a great hunt but better than average for the early. If you have the late hunt...
