    Kamas General Deer

lots of private ground...even more hunters. i went up mud flats last year and counted 43 rigs on the way down, from the top to the bottom. unbelievable. saw lots of does, 1 small 2pt. on the ground. in my opinion, WAY too many tags for the area. talking with the others last year hunting there...

Is there a Jeremy green in the house?Same bull?

Ok now I see them. Sorry. When I looked before I was at work...maybe there was a block and they didn't come up. Pretty tight restrictions where I work when it comes to computers. Anyway now I see them. Always a possibility I suppose, but it doesn't look like anywhere near where I shot the bull...

    Dead head

i got burned. i found a 27' 4x4 right on the side of highway 40, near the wallsburg turnoff. it was obviously roadkill, but it was down off the road on a steep-ish hill, behind the concrete barriers. it was only about 15' off the highway, just hidden by the barrier and the slope of the hill. i...

    Wasatch Muzzleloader LE Elk

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-13 AT 06:49AM (MST)[p]i have said it before, and i will say it again. i think the wasatch is the best unit there is. as stated before by many others, you may not see the biggest bulls, but there are lots of elk. i also like the diversity of the unit, from sage to quakies to...

    Preferred Coyote Caliber

my favorite is the 220 swift. i looked for years to find the 1 i have now. it is really good. it just punches a hole clean through without any blowout at all. drops them dead in the dirt. 2nd favorite is 25/06. i also have shot the 223 but sometimes it isnt enough to kill them dead, i have lost...

    The Western Hunter....new show

there is nothing worse than wasted timeon a hunting show. i was watching fred eichler last night and he was branding a young bull, then giving it an injection for something, then castrating it and showing the jewels to the camera. why? i enjoy watching him shoot coyotes(or anyone for that...

    Elk PICS PLS

LAST EDITED ON May-21-12 AT 03:37PM (MST)[p]here is my 2008 wasatch early rifle bull. he scored 342 and change. not the biggest one i saw, but character is a tradeoff for score sometimes, right? i know the unit is not the same as it was 4 years ago, but you should still be able to find and shoot...

    what would you do

i think at least talking to them and see what their thoughts were would be the thing to do. definitely not worth fighting with someone over an animal, but they may have graciously acknowledged they didnt want to see it wasted, we are glad you could find it and claim it, etc. but you never know...

what guns are you guys using this coyote season?

i also have a 220 swift in remington 700. sendero style composite stalk, heavy barrel, very nice weapon. i just got it this year and i absolutely love it. it is the gun of a lifetime, the 1 i have wanted for years but didnt have the luck to find 1 when i had some $ to spend on 1. the stars...

    Old Photos Contest

this is a way cool old pic. of my dads first deer hunt, about 1960. there are a total of 9 bucks. his is the top left, it was his first buck, 28" typical 4 pt. the giant one bottom center was 34", he thinks. it is a beautiful buck, it looks like a 4x5. those were definitely the good old days.

    roadkill recovery

thanks for the personal experience, shed. something like this is exactly what i did not want to happen, hence the call to the dwr. also, looking back after some cool down time, i suppose thanks for nothing was probly not the best way to close. but the whole ordeal was a waste of time, i guess...

interesting reply, rut. thanks for the viewpoint. i can see what you mean. surely he knows that there are people out there who cut horns off as soon as an animal gets hit. my reply to him was in frustration, true, but i dont think totally out of line. sorry if i appear foolish. i just really was...

    roadkill recovery

this was my response back to him. i hope i will still draw tags in the future. i never know if something like this will blackball me from future opportunities, ya know? that is very disappointing. so what happens to the antlers in a situation like this? does the officer take them home and keep...

    roadkill recovery

this is the response i got from the regional director. at least i think that is his title. Jeremy, Our wildlife disposal policy gives me the latitude to donate big game antlers and horns to people when an officer has concluded his investigation and has determined that the animal either died...

    roadkill recovery

good post nickman. this is the first time i have contacted the dwr about finding a deadhead and trying to do it legally. sadly, it will probably be the last. i like what you said about legally and morally. i couldnt agree more. if this buck hadnt been 10 feet off of highway 40, i would not have...

    yes or no?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-02-11 AT 09:41AM (MST)[p]after reading these posts, the thing that jumped out at me was from GLEDEASY. this is not an attack on him, just my thoughts. i have heard lots of people refer to the 3pt. or better restriction as a way to help improve big buck numbers, but i dont see...

    roadkill recovery

thanks guys. the responses were about what i thought they would be. i have not heard anything yet, dont know if or when i will. i really hope i am rewarded for doing the right thing, but i am realistic enough to know that i may never see it again. there is another thing about this that bothers...

    roadkill recovery

of course it could be more recent. there was a softball sized hole in the upper left leg above the tail where the birds had been picking at it. i dont think the temps have been above 45 there for the past week and a half. but clearly it was hit recently. i will post results when they come...

allright, everyone. i had an interesting thing happen to me today.on the way home to a.f. from heber, i stopped to look at some deer on the hillside near wallsburgh. while i was stopped, i looked down off the hill 15 ft. below me, and saw a very nice 3x4, 26 or 27 inches, dead, having been hit...

    Book Cliffs Rifle

my dad, 2 brothers and i had tags in 2000. we saw a lot of deer, all were low on the south end. the best buck we shot was a 28" 4x4 with a couple of extras. very cool buck. we hunted mostly hay canyon and a little west towards cottonwood canyon. we looked over hundreds of deer every day. they...

    Giant Bookcliffs bull found dead

interesting. maybe the bull put his antler under the fallen log and it got stuck. it looks like it is under there pretty good in the first photo. it also looks like his leg is between his antler and the log, like he was trying to pull himself out. then maybe while he was stuck the smaller tree...

    Book Cliffs round #2

like everyone says, look high this early. when the rifle hunt comes, they are gone from the top and are congregated lower, when i hunted there in 2000 they were as low as you could get. we were near hay canyon, and did not find anything on top. i think if you do look hard on top, anything you...
