    Utah draw odds 2023

Yep it’s a big contributor to point creep. I’m on a elk waiting period but I would be all in on 75/25 or 80/20

new way to get rid of coyotes

They can give away 200 of our le tags at the expo. Take some from that pool for coyote killers. I like it.

What is the Utah maximum bonus points for 2023 draw?

Hard to tell people with 30 points that they are getting phased out. I agree though the point system is a problem. I think small changes here and there could help improve I just don’t know if it’s too late.

What is the Utah maximum bonus points for 2023 draw?

Need to give a better percentage to max point holders. The 50/50 split is cool but it’s causing point creep. (I have 0 resident bonus points btw) drew an elk tag with 18 points and last year got an antelope tag with 0. Which is nice but the people with 5-8 points should have got that tag and...

How about a cow during your buck or bull season? Can’t find where they talked about that.

    Gen deer surrender thoughts

Hopefully. Maybe they can use some money from all the unlimited elk tags they are going to sell next year to develop some software for this?

    Gen deer surrender thoughts

Plus the original person doesn’t get a point for that year so it puts them a year behind, just like it is now when you turn in a tag.

Why wouldn’t it if you buy or accept a tag you use points

    Gen deer surrender thoughts

Has there been discussions on why Utah doesn’t reissue surrendered general season deer tags? Seems crazy to me that the tags are not re-sold when someone turns them back in. To me, even if the number is small (200,500,1000?), if the tags were sold or offered to the next person in line it would...

Looks like the elk herd is on its way out for good…

Thanks for the information. How can I find out who is on the committee? How was it formed? Thanks

Looks like the elk herd is on its way out for good…

What about all the units that aren’t private? A lot of units down south are mostly forest. Giving the flexibility to hunt elk during other hunts allows for higher success rates and fills those tags. It also spreads people out. I understand change is the only thing that’s consistent but this one...

Looks like the elk herd is on its way out for good…

You are on the committee right? Serious question, why change the hunting a late season cow during a general season tag like deer or spike elk? This has provided extra opportunity and spreads people out. Two things the proposal aims to do.

    Dutton opinions-Archery

Last year was so dry, I was up there Labor Day and it was pushing 90 on the mountain. Hardly any grass in the meadows. If you do draw I hope the weather is better. Archery is tough, lots of people on the mountain deer hunting, archery spike, and bear hunting. We were parked opening morning...

    Deer or Elk

I can see both sides of the argument. Me personally I don’t have a problem with cows on public land except one senerio that we’ve faced the past couple years. The particular unit I hunt I didn’t draw a cow elk tag, that’s fine. Then they decided that we were in a severe drought and sold an extra...

Just curious? Women hunters- will they handle anything/everything?

Good thread! I have 3 young daughters, gives me hope that I’ll get them out hunting with me. My wife likes to hunt but the quartering stuff is still too much for her.

Ke Keep us updated, this is the tag I’ve been trying to draw, have 12pts NR so one year in the next decade I might draw. Best of luck, hope you kill a giant.

    5yr waiting period...

Good for you. I’m just giving a suggestion to shorten waiting periods

    5yr waiting period...

That’s not the point, its the fact that with all tags the points are going up and up each year. I think it awesome that everyone has a chance but think the split is a bit off and if they lowered it it would lower the overall time it takes to draw a tag for all seasons. It’s cool that a first...

    5yr waiting period...

It makes elk and deer tags once in a lifetime as point creep goes up and up. Some tags are 25 points to draw, wait a quarter century to hunt...

    5yr waiting period...

Nice thing with Colorado is you pretty much know when you’re going to draw, bad thing is you know you don’t have a chance unless you have the points. It just seems ridiculous to me the 50 percent of the tags go to people that haven’t been putting in for decades. I have 18 pts for elk and people...

Where would you apply for elk?

Some people prefer to hunt with a bow maybe
  25. B

    5yr waiting period...

The real issue is the 50/50 split between bonus and random tags. Change it to 75 bonus and 25 percent random. Then you could drop the waiting period to 2 years. Just a thought it would help with point creep but still give everyone a chance.

    2nd season unit 21 deer

Thanks to everyone that gave advice. We ended up filling all three tags. The goal was to see a lot of deer and feel like there was a chance for a big one. I shot mine (middle) Friday night when it was just me and my dad, he was so heavy we couldn’t lift him in the truck. Thanks to the guys from...

    2nd season unit 21 deer

Just got home from the first trip, hunted Sat-Mon. Saw some deer, about 15 bucks biggest was a 20-22” 4pt that didn’t give us much of a look opening morning. Lots of 2pts and does and tons of people. Most of Sunday it was windy and snowing. Today was around 0 degrees a lot of the deer we saw In...

    2nd season unit 21 deer

Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. We’re just now planning when we want to be there. Leaning towards opening weekend and then coming back wed-sun second weekend. Fingers crossed we see some deer, either way it will be a fun trip with the family.

    2nd season unit 21 deer

Driving home from our first scouting trip. We drove around the oil springs wilderness area, rabbit mountain, Texas mountain, Philadelphia creek, and Baxter pass. Only saw a couple deer at the top of Baxter. Didn’t expect to see many deer due to the hot weather this weekend and the full moon but...

Who got a Southern Unit Deer Survey

Saw one bull this weekend so based on that the herd is dismal haha. We have a few good ones on camera but they have vanished on us the last couple weeks probably sticking closer to water. Overall the herd seems down a bit based on what we’ve seen the last 10 years.
