Was a great first few days of the hunt. The elk were further into the rut than I expected and got close to a really good bull but another hunter got upwind of him and blew the herd out as I had my rangefinder on him?. That's public land I guess. Was chasing bugles every morning for hours...

Just got back from my first few days of my archery elk tag. It was a blast and was chasing elk everyday. Going back for part two next week. The elk were further into the rut than I expected with bigger bulls working their cows pretty good. Anyone else seeing earlier than expected rutting in Az?

How?s it goin, so I've been doing a ton of research and have a pretty good idea on a few places I'll be scouting . I got some good info from a couple hunters who have hunted it in the past. The only thing is is sounds difficult to get to far away from people unless you go into the wilderness...

Thanks for the insight ! I think I'll end up in the higher country too. I was just worried about it being crowded, but I'll go where the elk are, I'm sure I'll be able to find some spots where the roads aren't !

Yeah you're right, it's an army base, but you still can't hunt that part of the unit , and i heard people will congregate towards that border because a lot of elk go back and forth from the camp to Rogers Lake area.

I'll dm you tomorrow, I hunted it 3 years ago. It was really fun, but not your typical archery hunt.
