LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-17 AT 10:20AM (MST)[p]I'm not really fishing for info, just posting to say it's nice to live though everyone else?s success in other states. I love seeing all the photos and stories, big or small, they are all nice. I am from Kansas and would like to hunt anywhere there...

    Dislike only hunting home state

I love hunting my home state but when it's over, I sure do get withdrawals seeing everyone else?s pictures and stories from other states. Sure is nice to live through and dream/think about their hunts. Not sure what my hang up is going somewhere else, I have time and resources to do so...

Do You Get Your Deer Scored

I have a buddy scores animals from 1-10. It takes a lot to get a 10 but can be size of antlers of character, whatever makes him happy. 7 or above he shoots. I actually like this system....he is concerned on what makes him happy not how many inches of antler he is carrying!

    200" realistically??

In my opinion 200 inches is 200 inches and the matter what kind of frame it's on. I do agree that a 200 inch true typical is harder to come by than typical with trash or just a nontypical. I think it is hard to come by with a typical without any deductions from extras and apparently that's the...

    Lottery

Are there many states that have actually lottery tags in premium areas for mule deer? I've researched a little and seems most are point allocated. Thanks for saving me more research time! Deone

    200" realistically??

This was not intended to be a personal question directed at me, nor at tactics. I get the idea that there are a lot more people that think it is possible to kill one more than I think thought there would be. All the factors must align, i understand that completely!

    200" realistically??

There are a lot of good thoughts on this, some I agree with some i don't...just like everyone else. I know 200" deer a few and far between compared to 160" deer. I know that time must be put in also or it's a shot in the dark! I was just curious as to what expectations were for killing one...

    200" realistically??

I guess I'm referring to the average guy that doesn't do guided hunts and either hunts mostly general seasons on normal public or private grounds. I understand anything can be purchased, even antlers, but I'm referring to the most common kind of hunters from my perspective. Seems like 160" is...

    200" realistically??

Just a quick question.... And I know all the possibilities like state, tag availability, method, public lands, genetics etc... But, how realistic is it to think that one could kill a 200"+ deer once or multiple times in a lifetime? Getting the fever already! Deone

    WYO low land muleys

I appreciate the info, at least it's a starting point. I did not even know where to start. I'm not opposed to going into the high country, it's not about the physicalness of the hunt. I just don't have the gear to do it and not sure I can justify shelling out a ton to get it done. Thanks everyone

    WYO low land muleys

Everyone, I read a lot about G and H for high country muleys but are there any regions or areas that have high quality bucks without hunting the high country? I have never hunted high country and more accustomed to plains style hunting. Looking for a hunt in maybe '19 and will have 8 points by...

    Antler growth in heat waves

Must be a lot of schools of thought on antler growth. I have been told that in hotter weather deer use so much energy keeping their body cool it effects growth. On the flipside, if the weather is cooler they spend less energy keeping their body cool and can use it for antler growth. Cool and...

    Restoring a deadhead

Thanks for all the information. Although I a really a do it yourself guy, I'm not sure I have the interest in rubba-dub-dub, although it looks awesome. I'm looking into several options. Have had several pms. Thanks everyone

    Restoring a deadhead

I actually missed this buck 3 years ago at 17 yards in an uncut corn field, arrow deflected off a leaf and stuck in the ground about 3 yards from where he was standing. Hunted him hard the next year and never got a crack at him and he was found dead this spring. I think he was possibly bigger...

A question for you successful trophy hunters

For me..... Having big bucks where I hunt. Spending hundreds of dollars to scout. Hundred of hours in the field scouting. Knowing where they may be during hunting season. And finally...just getting plain a$$ lucky enough to get a shot. Deone

    What cha think?

Does the magazine article on the also have anything to do with either one of the deer? The deer are awesome! I do think you should move them, they look too "perfectly positions" though. Deone

Preference Points when I retire :)

Guess I have a little thinking to do. I will NEVER have time to hunt during the fall on 2-3 point or OTC tags in other states.(because of coaching and teaching) I will probably NEVER have enough money to apply for all the states that I want to. (because of coaching and teaching) I love what I...

Preference Points when I retire :)

sounds like you guys have some great insight into this. keeping track of dates, states, money etc sounds like a lot of work and a lot of money. I think i will just save my money and hastle and buy a good tag somewhere. I've never been on a guided hunt, maybe that will be a good thing to do! I...

Preference Points when I retire :)

I'm only 35 but want to bank point so when I retire, I can actually hunt. I'm a teacher and coach 3 sports, so my falls and winters are very busy, cannot hunt much at all. There is no way I could squeeze an out of state hunt into my life right now. My question is, what states do I really need...

    Please define "pisscutter"

I need some adjectives to define "pisscutter" I've seen it used many times, but get confused sometimes. I think I've seen is used for giants but also referred to for smaller deer? What exactly is a "pisscutter?" Deone

    Kansas

I meant to send the first post as a pm, hope i don't open up a big can of worms. Looks like that it is going to take at least 4 points to draw a muzzle loader tag. In mid September, all the crops are still in the fields and the very warm weather. They are very hard to hunt then. Can also hunt...

    Kansas

I think you are going to have a really hard time finding an outfitter for mule deer in kansas. not many of them. also, lots of people apply for the stamp. 2 buddies have been applying for them since the onset of the stamp and have not drawn yet. However, if you do draw, get a hold of me if you...
