Last minute meeting to change Co tag allocation

I live in Oregon and if there are two states blue enough for this to be believable in would be CO & OR. You almost had me there:ROFLMAO:

Need help with a very good problem to have

Hey guys, I appreciate the feedback. It's true that no deer hunt in Oregon is worth that amount of points. So my son and I together have enough points to average and draw Warner unit which we will probably do next year. It's not in the cards for him this year plus I have an elk and deer hunt...

Need help with a very good problem to have

Hey Fellow Oregon MM. I have 23 resident points for deer but I don't want to draw any unit this year as a first choice. Typically I would pick a unit I don't have enough points to draw so I would get my point, then list a second choice for a eastern Oregon bow deer unit I could get as a second...

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

Good advice but if I drive from Oregon to MT, ID, CO, WY I'm sure I can live with driving a few hours to get around Montana as long as I can get a tag unlike OR where tags are much harder to come by.

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

I understand that Montana isn't what it used to be, no western state is. However I've lived my whole life in Oregon and I've hunted Montana several times in recent years. The sad truth is for DIY public land hunting you still have us beat by a log shot for opportunity and quality and fewer...

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

I guess I better chime in here as the person who is the original poster of this question. So many great responses and a few not so much. It's funny we all feel the same about outsiders coming to our states. We're full!! I don't blame you having lived in Oregon my whole life, we feel the same...

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

Thank you fellow hunters. I thought this would be a fun questions to ask and a lot of you gave fun answers that I enjoyed. In all seriousness it looks like Wyoming is hands down the winner if your just taking into account Hunting. You brought up a lot of great points to consider for several...

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

I have quite a few depending on the species but once you burn them you burn them. So I have to burn my 24 points for Oregon Deer and 24 points Oregon antelope and 7 Oregon elk before I move. But regardless where I go I'm only a resident in one place so the others no different than where I am now.

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

Hello Monster Muley's. I have two to three years until retirement. I'll have just turned 60 at that point and hopefully still have some good years of hunting ahead of me. I can't count on the point system to do the amount of hunting I want. Especially in the retirement years of my life and...

Mule Deer 62 VS 70 Rifle

If you want to hunt together probably 61, 70 is forecasted as needing 4 points to draw the 2nd season this year according to the magazines. If I remember right CO does not average points so if that is correct you'd be looking at working with your buddy's three point which probably won't even get...

The way I understand it you get a preference point period if you don't draw your first choice. Maybe someone can confirm.

    Bull elephant or stone sheep?

I'd rather take the 70K and buy 14 good elk or mule deer LOP tags and DIY myself into so more great rocky mountain hunting. Sorry I know that wasn't the question at hand but had to say it.

2024 NR elk applications - special vs regular

I usually put in for special but I'm sitting it out this year and just buying a point to see what these changes do to the landscape and then decide next year what to do. Plus I have other options I can cash in on this year. Best of luck to you guys.

    Elk Archery Equipment Question

I second this. I've had two bows blow up on me in the last 30 years. I guess that isn't bad unless it happens to you hunting and then you need that backup. I always take two on long trips.

How Much Is To Much Scope???

I think I'll just throw one of my 4x16x50 on it then and save a little cash. The Seekins PH2 hunter I bought in 6.5prc isn't crazy expensive compared to customer rifles but for me it's still a little investment so I'll save on the scope end of things. Thanks again.

    Elk Archery Equipment Question

I would definitely upgrade your 20 year old bow. Speed and weight is the most important. I used to shoot 80lbs from a golden eagle cam hunter in my 20's now I shoot a 64# hoyt spyder in my 50's, the arrow is faster than the 80#'s I used to shoot. Bow design has come such a long way that the...

How Much Is To Much Scope???

Hey Guys, I apologize for the question because it's probably been hashed out a million times. However, I've been mostly archery hunting for many years, but due an occasional rifle hunt. I'm adding some more rifle hunts again to lengthen my seasons by doing both bow and rifle, plus I'm not...

    Lowering Standards

To be honest mine tend to. Depending on the tag, I l research the upper end expectation for that unit and that hunt. I give myself half the time to achieve it. So on an eight day hunt I give myself four. At that point I assess what I've seen. If I think the unit meets up to the research I've...

    Help me choose a Tikka

Hey Stillwater. Thanks for the thumbs up for Tikka. From everything that has been said on this thread it looks like the Tikka is the ticket for the dollar. Colorado 2nd season mule deer

Agree with Hunt harder. Any unit you can draw with 4 to 5 non- resident points can produce that caliber of buck. Just make sure that there is plenty of public land to hunt and you success rates show close to 50% or better would be my thoughts. I haven't had much issue in CO with this but have in...

Sled Springs Archery with 7 resident points?

I had a similar experience in 2016 when I had the Mt. Emily Tag. I heard wolves within a couple hundred yards of my camp at night at two different locations. One seemed to be following a bugling bull. I've even heard wolves in the northfork wilderness a couple of years ago. Unfortunately wolves...
